VCPA 2021 ‘Movie of the Year’ goes to ‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’
For decades, the Philippine film industry has given us some groundbreaking movies that are not only beloved locally, but internationally as well. So, we must best believe that Philippine cinema is still far from dead. Take Carlo Francisco Manatad‘s ‘Kun Maupan Man It Panahon’ as an example.
In the recently concluded Village Pipol Choice Awards 2021, the Waray drama-disaster film, ‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’ took home the coveted prize in film, the ‘Movie of the Year’ Award. Starring Charo Santos-Concio, Daniel Padilla, and Rans Rifol, the film highlights the strength of the human spirit, which resonated with many Filipino moviegoers in these trying times.
Staying true to its core, the Village Pipol Choice Awards 2021 ‘Movie of the Year’ celebrates Pinoy films that are entertaining, visually distinctive, and socially relevant. Certainly, this year’s nominees tackle a variety of topics that showcase what Filipino cinema can and has to offer.
‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’ is VCPA 2021’s ‘Movie of the Year!’
Village Pipol revealed the full VCPA results during its prestigious award-giving event on March 26, 2022. The winners were determined by the totality of Facebook and Instagram votes, along with the editorial team and a panel of judges’ intensive decision.
‘Big Night,’ ‘My Amanda,’ ‘Love is Color Blind,’ ‘Revirginized,’ and ‘Gameboys: The Movie’ surely had made a big wave in the entertainment scene last year. However, ‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’ was the landslide victor by a considerable margin of 96.5%.
The critically-acclaimed film particularly portrays the repercussions brought by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in Tacloban, 2013. It focuses on the story of Norma, Miguel, and Andrea, as they survive while searching desperately for their loved ones.
Thus, ‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’ is an ode to our grief, trauma, and healing. Indeed, it is also a timely cinematic experience that pipol can relate to, which is the main goal of filmmaking. No doubt that this film is truly deserving of the ‘Movie of the Year’ title.
