Tausug Children’s Books Honored in Congress for Promoting Cultural Heritage


Stories that began on the page of Tausug children’s books have found their way to the halls of Congress.
Nelson Canlas expresses his gratefulness to share that the House of Representatives has recognized ‘Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug’ and ‘Ang Kuwento ni Putli Mandi.'”
House Resolution No. 00298, which acknowledges the role of these books in preserving and promoting Tausug culture, has passed its first reading.
Canlas, and the whole team extend their heartfelt thanks to Rep. Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles and Rep. Angelo Barba for authoring this resolution and for supporting this mission.

The books, written by Nelson Canlas, Chef Miggy Cabel Moreno, and Dr. Ma. Isabel-Go (María Izabelli CM Go), published by PaperKat Books with the brand Palatable Books, and with the vision of bringing forward stories that celebrate heritage and identity. The two titles, illustrated by Danielle Florendo (Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug) and Marbin Macalino (Ang Kuwento ni Putli Mandi).
This recognition belongs to their heritage, the Bangsamoro spirit, and the living narrative of Mindanao.
