Street Photography: Nightlife From The Laborer’s Lens
Hearing the word nightlife might excite every inch of many of you. A night to which people got to chill, enjoy, and temporarily escape the busy and messy world. But, have you ever wondered how nightlife was spent for some of our laborers?
On a busy street on a random night, I brought my camera with me to take a few snaps. Little did I know, I would cross paths with amazing people who served as heroes of our every night. With my fascination with Photography, the term nightlife suddenly rumbled in my mind because of some people that served as my subjects.
Let me walk you in the busy streets of my home town San Pablo City, Laguna, and be amused with the laborers’ kind of nightlife:
Aspalto de Peligro
It was my first time witnessing a set of men scattered along the street as they fix the road at night. Those huge trucks, the mind-boggling sound of the equipment, and the bright lights that guides them through, just caught my attention. I just realized that with the job that they have, it is the night that they always spend time with. Truly, I got amazed by their profession and got the privilege to take pictures of them.
Welding Day
It’s his welding day! The lights coming out from the stick welder truly gives off the aesthetic vibes. But what captured my attention apart from the aesthetics is the young man’s perseverance to accomplish his job.
What a ride!
Life-savers indeed are those tricycle drivers who used to spend their nights in the streets to work and serve other people. Imagine how would normal people without private vehicles handle emergencies without these drivers? Hassle as it sounds! But, huge thanks to these drivers who take extra effort to work late at night.
Cravings satisfied
Of course, there are stories of people who help us satisfy our late-night cravings. I just don’t know how could we survive without these foods that we need as we accomplish our late-night tasks. From shawarma to the goodness of balut, you wouldn’t definitely ask for more!
‘Guard!’
We always call them for help, sometimes in a reckless manner. They always entertain us with our concerns and are up 24/7. During the night when everyone is unsure of their safety, there are security guards who stay up all night to be of service. Salute!
I’m in control now
Traffic enforcers at night deserve the recognition, too. Giving unending hand signals and enduring the noisy road is definitely no joke. Seeing them still working late at night is just a very surreal feeling.
In the hours to which many of us take advantage of the opportunity to take a rest, there are untold stories of hardships and perseverance. The nightlife of these laborers was far way different from any of our nightlife and their stories deserve to be told.
