Painting Her Own Path: Keylyn Trajano Returns to the Global Stage

Keylyn Trajano

As the world marks Women’s Month, stories of resilience and reinvention take center stage. For Keylyn Trajano, her journey is something she often describes through the lens of art—layered, evolving, and shaped by each experience along the way.

Finding Strength in Struggle

Looking back, Keylyn Trajano says it was not the easy moments that defined her path, but the struggles she encountered along the way. From rejection to discrimination, she learned to see each challenge as something that could help her grow rather than hold her back.

“All the struggles and pain points in my life, I take them as my seeds. I see my life as a garden. Through the struggles and rejections, I take them as wisdom and lessons,”

Keylyn on moments that ultimately shaped the woman she is today—someone who continues to look for hope even amid life’s difficulties.

The Artist Behind the Crown

Behind the glitz and glamour of pageantry, Trajano says there is another side of her that many people rarely see. While she is often recognized for her confidence on stage and her strong performances during question-and-answer segments, she describes herself as someone deeply connected to creativity and the arts.

A graduate of advertising who later pursued further studies in business and marketing, Trajano grew up in an environment where art played a major role. Her father’s side of the family are painters, and she spent much of her childhood learning oil painting and charcoal sketching.

As a self-proclaimed fan of anime, comics, and cartoons, she also enjoyed drawing characters and exploring different forms of visual storytelling. “I’m actually a geek,” she says with a laugh, adding that she has always loved sketching and creating characters inspired by manga and cartoons.

Growing up partly in Saudi Arabia and the United States, Keylyn Trajano spent many summers attending various creative classes—from piano and singing lessons to ballet and painting workshops. Over time, that exposure to art shaped the way she approached both life and her career.

“In a way, I feel like I myself am a piece of art—my life, my body, my vessel,”

Trajano also uses that the same creative mindset as her approach in her pageant journey.

Furthermore, rather than simply preparing for competitions in the traditional sense, Keylyn works closely with designers to ensure that every detail, from the color of a gown to the message behind it—tells a story.

“There are layers to everything. It’s not just about the design. There’s always a message behind it,”

A Foundation Built at Home

While many women cite mentors or role models who inspired them along the way, Trajano says the most consistent support in her life has come from her mother. Because her journey has often required breaking new ground, she says there were few people who had walked the same path before her. Instead, the encouragement she received at home that allowed her to keep moving forward.

“It was just me and my mom pushing each other. She has always been my backbone and my foundation,” she says, highlighting that this strong support system helped her remain determined even when faced with doubts from others.

Returning to the Global Change

Now, Trajano is preparing for another major milestone as she represents the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Grand International All-Stars pageant, where standout queens from around the world will compete. For her, the opportunity feels both meaningful and unexpected.

“It’s an honor, especially being chosen as a representative of the Philippines,” she says, acknowledging the legacy of Filipina queens who helped elevate the country’s reputation in international pageantry.

At the same time, Keylyn Trajano believes that the Miss Grand platform offers something unique within the pageant industry. Unlike competitions that often follow strict expectations of what a beauty queen should look or how she should act, she says Miss Grand encourages contestants to embrace individuality and personality.

“You don’t need to be boxed into a certain mold. You can just be authentic and be yourself,” she explains, noting that the pageant celebrates performance, character, and confidence in ways that allow women to express who they truly are.

For Trajano, this moment is also deeply personal. For many years, she never imagined that someone like her would have the opportunity to compete on such a stage.

“I didn’t actually think I would become a Miss Grand,” she admits, recalling how she once believed her competitive pageant journey had already come to an end after her previous international competition.

At the time, her career had already expanded into television, film, and reality shows, and she was content with the path she had built. Then another opportunity appeared. “I just woke up and the stars aligned,” she says, describing how the chance to compete again felt unexpected but meaningful.

Now, she sees the upcoming competition as another opportunity to create something new—much like beginning a fresh canvas.

Letting Go and Embracing the Journey

As she prepares for this next chapter, Trajano says her mindset has also changed compared with her earlier pageant experiences. In the past, she admits she sometimes tried to control every detail of the journey, hoping it would lead to a specific outcome. Over time, however, she realized that constantly chasing control could create unnecessary pressure.

“When you crave something too much and try to control everything, sometimes it doesn’t end up the way you wanted,” she reflects. Instead, she says she is now choosing to embrace the process itself. “I’m just savoring every moment—the memories, the journey, and the experience,” she shares, adding that while she will still give her best in the competition, she is allowing life and faith to guide what comes next.

Empowerment Rooted in Hope

During Women’s Month, conversations about empowerment often take center stage. For Trajano, empowerment begins with something deeply personal and hope is something no one can take away because it comes from within.

“Empowerment for me is a symbol of hope,”

For her, empowerment means having the courage to shape one’s life and move toward something better each day.

“It’s about someone who wants to take control of her life and create something better—not just for herself, but for the people around her,” she adds.

A Season of Reinvention

As summer approaches, Keylyn Trajano also sees the season as a time for renewal. While conversations in the Philippines often focus on achieving a “summer body,” she believes the season carries a deeper meaning of transformation and growth.

“Summer is about recalibration, reinvention, and reintroduction,” she says, explaining that every new season offers people the chance to reset and improve themselves.

“It’s about resetting yourself and becoming better,” she adds, noting that this perspective closely mirrors the stage she currently finds herself in.

Like an artist beginning a new canvas, Trajano approaches the next chapter of her journey with both reflection and anticipation—ready to continue shaping her story one moment, one lesson, and one brushstroke at a time.
