At 54, this veteran Korean actress single-handedly broke the norms on how women of her age should look. Honestly, she’s still a leading lady material.

In an interview with the magazine as translated by entertainment website Soompi, Hee Ae talked about her passion in acting and the popularity of her character in the said series.

“I always think of it as the last chance I’ll have. I have been shaped by my pressing thoughts like, ‘When will I ever be able to play a role like this?’ It has gotten me to this point today. Whether it is someone’s acting or directing abilities, I think it all comes out fundamentally from a person’s heart and thoughts.”

Fans have been rooting for Ji Sun Woo, the character for Hee Ae. Unlike any other traditional protagonist in an infidelity-themed series, she is not a timid wife but a strong, empowered, relatable woman.

For Hee Ae, Sun Woo’s honesty is the reason why many viewers can relate to her character.

“Ji Sun Woo is someone who does her best to live in an honest manner and doesn’t care about what anyone thinks when expressing her emotions. In some ways, she does have an aggressive and stubborn side to her. Regardless, I think viewers are relating to and supporting her confidence and honesty.”

Last night, May 16, the series concluded with an explosive ending. During its run, the series has been breaking TV records in South Korea, and considered as the highest rated cable TV show of all time.
