Meet the Judges
A panel of industry leaders, creatives, and experts will play a crucial role in selecting this year’s winners. Each judge brings extensive experience and knowledge to ensure that the most deserving nominees take home the prestigious VP Choice Awards.
Jason Fernandez – Music Artist & Former Rivermaya Lead Vocalist (Entertainment)
As Rivermaya’s lead vocalist from 2007 to 2011, Jason Fernandez became a recognized name in OPM. After his tenure, he pursued a solo career and later competed in The Voice of the Philippines in 2014. With years of experience as a performer and songwriter, he lends his expertise in recognizing outstanding artists in this year’s awards.
DJ Alvarez – Sales & Marketing Professional, Entrepreneur (Sales and Business)
With eight years of experience in sales and entrepreneurship, DJ Alvarez has worked with prestigious fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) brands for five years, specializing in distribution and marketing. He later ventured into entrepreneurship, managing his own business while overseeing the digital marketing of his family’s resort. His expertise in brand growth and market strategy makes him a key voice in recognizing breakthrough businesses at this year’s VP Choice Awards.
Joanafe Hoque – Business Management Professor & CEO of Philgifts (Business & Entrepreneurship)
With over 16 years of experience in business operations and management, Joanafe Hoque is an educator and entrepreneur. She graduated BS Industrial Engineering in PUP and took her Master’s Degree in Business Management from the University of the Philippines – Manila. She has also mentored aspiring entrepreneurs and financial managers as professor at PUP San Juan. As the CEO of Philgifts, she has successfully led the brand to become a trusted name in the industry. Her expertise in corporate leadership, brand growth, and customer engagement makes her a key figure in evaluating this year’s top businesses.
Carl Lamiel – Founder / Editor-in-Chief, WalasTech (Technology)
Carl Lamiel is an experienced technology journalist. He began his career as a Senior Contributor at YugaTech. There, he delivered top stories and uncovered the best deals as a senior correspondent. Then in 2020, Carl founded WalasTech, an online publication dedicated to providing comprehensive tech news and reviews to Filipino audience. His extensive knowledge of consumer electronics, software, and emerging technologies makes him an invaluable member of this year’s VP Choice Awards judging panel.
Kim Ruiz – Sponsorship Head, LoveYourself, Inc. & LGBTQ+ Advocate (Community Services and Entertainment)
A passionate advocate for HIV awareness, mental health, and LGBTQ+ rights, Kim Ruiz has been a dedicated volunteer at LoveYourself, Inc. since 2019 and now serves as its Sponsorship Head. As Mx. LoveYourself World 2024, he continues to champion inclusivity and community empowerment. Beyond advocacy, he also excels as a Recruitment Coordinator at a global firm. There, he organizes themed events, showcasing his versatility and dedication to meaningful causes. With his expertise in corporate partnerships and social impact, he plays a key role in ensuring that the VP Choice Awards recognize brands and personalities making a difference.
Dr. Homer Cudel – Celebrity Dermatologist (Beauty & Medical Aesthetics)
Dr. Homer Cudel is a board-certified dermatologist affiliated with the Philippine Dermatological Society and practicing at Keralty MegaClinic. With expertise in dermatology and aesthetic medicine, he specializes in skincare and cosmetic treatments. His experience makes him credible in evaluating the top beauty, skincare, and wellness brands at this year’s VP Choice Awards.
James Miguel – Founder, Showbizz Ganap / Showbizz Ganap TV (Entertainment)
James Miguel is the founder of Showbizz Ganap, a platform covering the latest in Philippine entertainment. With experience in media and digital content, he therefore brings valuable industry insight to the VP Choice Awards panel. This ensures that the most influential names in entertainment are recognized.
