Aww, this 9-year-old achiever sells his medals for food to feed family

It is true that the purest hearts belong to children as their intentions aren’t as tainted as that of adults. We recently came across the story of a nine-year-old boy who went to sell the medal he won at school in order to provide for his family’s needs.

Featured on top-rating GMA program ‘Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho‘ is incoming Grade 4 student named Kenneth who have collected 50 medals from his academic achievements.

Family over medals

Amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, his mother was among those who had lost their source of income. This urged the young boy to make profit from his medals with P20 each.

“Pinaghirapan ko po ‘yun. Gusto ko ibenta kasi nahirapan na si Mama nang sobra, kasi kahit marami na kaming pinagdaanan na pagsubok, hindi niya kami iniwan (I worked hard for those medals. I want to sell them because my mom is having a difficult time. We’ve been through a lot, but she never left us),” he said.

Kenneth is consistent in excelling at school, he even joined his first Math competition when he was just in Grade 1. His mom shared that she encounters not a single problem with her children’s grades.

The bright child was eager to ease their financial problems and took to social media his little medal business. And it was a hit! Generous donors flooded the now viral and heartwarming gesture of Kenneth.

Among those who donated were Dr. Khristian Santos, who owned an online laptop shop, and gave the family a laptop. The “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” team, meanwhile, gave the brothers their own internet broadband and financial aid.

Despite his achievements, Kenneth touched the hearts of the public because he’d rather consider his family as his biggest and greatest pride.
