3 Caffeinated Desserts Made with Instant Coffee
Coffee is a versatile ingredient that works amazingly in drinks.
However, if you are tired of making this drink, here are some recipe ideas for other coffee desserts.
They are easy to make and would make the best treat for any coffee lover.
These desserts can be made with any brand of instant coffee.
Yet, it is best to choose a coffee with a darker roast.
That way, you can get a strong coffee flavor without having to use a lot of coffee.
Also, do not use instant with added milk powder and sugar because the recipe might not come out properly.
Coffee Jelly
Coffee jelly is a great adult twist to the sweet dessert.
It is a popular treat in Japan, but we think all coffee lovers in the world should try this dessert.
The jelly will be served chilled so it would make a great treat on a hot day.
You can also make it in advance.
However, the best part of this dessert is that you can easily make it at home with just a handful of ingredients that can be easily found in any grocery store.
You will need to prepare 4 cups of strong coffee, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 3 tablespoons of unflavoured gelatine.
Mix all three ingredients until everything is dissolved and then pour the mixture into a medium square tin.
Then, place the tin in the fridge and let the coffee mixture cool for at least 4 hours.
Once the coffee jelly has been set, you can take it out and cut the jelly into small, bite-sized cubes.
The coffee jelly will be a little bitter to be eaten on its own so serve it with some sweet coffee creamer or make some sweet milk by combining condensed milk with regular milk.
Coffee Bean Cookies
This next coffee dessert might take a little longer to make and will require a lot more ingredients than the previous two recipes, but it will be worth the time and effort.
Not only are these coffee bean cookies delicious, but they also look absolutely adorable.
They make great accompaniments to your favorite coffee mixes and would be the best gift for a coffee lover.
For the cookies, you will need to prepare 120g of all-purpose flour, 12g of cocoa powder, 25g of corn starch, 5g of instant coffee powder mixed in 8g of hot water, 75g of softened unsalted butter, 65g of icing sugar, and 1 egg yolk.
To start, sift the flour, cocoa powder, and corn starch into a bowl and set it aside.
In another bowl, cream the butter with the icing sugar until a smooth mixture is formed.
Then, add the yolk into the butter mixture and mix until well combined. After that, add in the coffee mixture and mix to combine.
Gradually add in the dry mixture and then combine until a soft dough is formed.
Make small dough balls, about 8g each, and shape them into rounded ovals.
Use a toothpick or the back of a butter knife to create a vertical indentation on each of the dough balls.
Freeze the dough for about 30 minutes before baking.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 170°C.
Once the dough balls have chilled for 30 minutes, take them out and bake for 12 to 14 minutes.
Once done, take them out from the oven and let them cool before serving.
You can also make these chocolate-covered cookies by dipping them into some melted chocolate.
Granita di Caffé con Panna
Granita is a Sicilian dessert made with ice, sugar, and flavoring.
It is basically flavored ice so if you think the coffee jelly is not enough to cool you down on a hot day, a granita will definitely do the trick.
You can flavor a granita however you like but if you normally enjoy a cold glass of iced coffee on a hot day, then a coffee granita, or ‘Granita di Caffé con Panna’, would be the best choice for you.
While the name may be fancy, the way to prepare this dessert is actually very simple but you will need a little patience to get it to the perfect consistency.
To make this coffee granita, you will need to first need to prepare 1 cup of water, half a cup of sugar, and 1 cup of strong coffee.
Mix the water and sugar and heat on a low fire until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Then, take the water and sugar mixture off the stove.
Add in the coffee and mix until everything is well-combined.
Transfer the mixture into a flat metal pan and place it in the freezer.
Let it sit and freeze for 30 minutes before taking it out and scrapping the top with a fork.
What you want to do is agitate the mixture to create ice crystals, so once you have scrapped enough for the first time, place the mixture back into the freezer.
Repeat the step for another 3 or 4 hours or until you get your desired consistency.
You can serve the coffee granita as is but what makes this dessert a ‘Granita di Caffé con Panna’ is the sweet, whipped cream so make a batch using 1 cup of heavy cream and 2 tablespoons of sugar and then serve with the coffee granita.
