Delightful and refreshing melon treats to try this summer

When the scorching heat hits, three things come to our minds: the cooling blast of an air conditioner, a beach or pool getaway, or a delicious and cold summer treat. However, we found that summer treats have been the most affordable among the options available to us most of the time. We often choose ice cream, halo-halo, or fruit recipes. But it’s time to take a break from our typical mango and buko summer snacks and try some melon recipes that will leave you feeling refreshed.

Melons come in a variety of sizes and colors, including the cantaloupe or what we recognized as a melon. In the Philippines, we simply use the term “melons” rather than the latter. It has a sweet taste, juicy insides, and offers health and nutritional benefits. According to Medical News Today, cantaloupes have numerous health benefits, including improved hydration.

Therefore, melon is an excellent substitute when we grow tired of the usual fruits we used for our cold summer indulgence. To keep you cool and refreshed this summer, we’ve compiled a list of melon summer treats to try.

Do you want to take melon juice to a new level? If you want something sweet and milky, try this melon milky drink. This recipe is very similar to melon juice, but it uses condensed milk instead of sugar and milk instead of water.

Cut the melon in half, remove the seeds, scrape the insides with a scraping tool, and pour into a pitcher or glass. Add the appropriate amount of condensed milk and the milk of your choice. After that, thoroughly mix it. Finally, add some ice, and you’ll have a cold and creamy drink in minutes!

Melon Ice Candy

We usually buy ice candies from nearby sari-sari stores, and it appears that these products are becoming harder to find. However, you can make one with a melon flavor at the comfort of your homes. When you don’t have the energy to cook or make something, ice candy seems a great option because you can make a lot of extras and keep them in the fridge until you want to eat them.

The recipe for this one is the same as for any other ice candy, but with melon bits added for flavor. It can even be blended before being mixed with the ice candy creamy base, or you can simply add the fruit as is for more texture. Cool it in the freezer, and it will transform into an ice pop perfect for summer days.

Smoothie

Fruit smoothies could be ideal for those who prefer their fruits smoothly blended into a shake-like consistency. While the other recipes only use melon as the only fruit, the smoothie is different. You can add another fruit of your choice for a more nutritious and balanced flavor.

You will need a melon without seeds, another fruit, such as a banana, yogurt, milk, and ice cubes. The cut fruits can be frozen or fresh, depending on your preference; however, for a colder and thicker result, choose frozen. It’s a simple step in which all ingredients are added to a blender and mixed until smooth. You can even add some toppings to make a mouthwatering presentation!
