The ’90s hit show FRIENDS is iconic for some reason. That’s why millennials and Gen Zs are thankful to Netflix for bringing it back. We definitely love the great humor of the characters. We also love the witty and memorable lines like “We are on a break” and of course, the plot twists per season. So yes, we agree that this series deserves a special reunion.
Much-awaited FRIENDS reunion will be on HBO Max soon!
For 10 seasons, fans followed the story of how Rachel and Joey work toward their big breaks. Meanwhile, Ross and Chandler search for love in the most unexpected places. In the meantime, Monica and Phoebe support the group with good food and out-there music.
After 17 years of the last episode’s airing, the cast returns for a reunion special. HBO Max sets to air the reunion episode last March 2020. Around February that year, all of the casts shared a photo on Instagram to tease about the reunion special with a caption, “It’s happening.” However, the producers decided to postpone the project due to the ongoing pandemic. Perhaps this year, it’s going to happen.
The cast to return on their original set in California for the shoot.
Series creators David Crane, Marta Kauffman, and Kevin Bright will all direct the FRIENDS reunion alongside The Late Late Show writer Ben Winston. In addition, the stars and directors will be executive producers. Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc return to film the special on the show’s original set at Warner Bros. Studio’s Stage 24 in Burbank, California.
The cast will not be in characters but as their true selves
HBO Max said in a statement:
“The cast and producers are all very excited to go into production, as this will be the first time since the show ended that the whole cast will be together and on the original sets to reminisce.”
So what can we expect from the reunion special? According to the source, it will have an unscripted hour-long event where the cast will revisit the original set. Aside from that, we can accompany the actors as they go down memory lane together. They will also show rare behind-the-scenes footage for the fans. HBO Max pointed out that this reunion special is not an addition to the existing episodes. They further added, “The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters.”
The FRIENDS reunion special will air exclusively on HBO Max. However, they have yet to reveal the premiere date. So, we’ll just have to be patient. Hopefully, it’s all worth the long wait.
