Established in 1968, Mutya ng Pilipinas is one of the country’s oldest existing national pageants. From the 1980s to 2013, the pageant has been responsible in selecting the country’s delegate for Miss Intercontinental.

Up until that the point, the country’s highest placement at the pageant was a 1st runner-up finish in 1995 by Maria Sovietskaya Bacud. Its last representative was Andrea Koreen Medina who finished 3rd runner-up in 2013.

Along with Miss Intercontinental, Mutya ng Pilipinas also has 3 international titles under its belt. These are the World Top Model Competition, Top Model of the World, and Miss Tourism International.

In 2014, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) acquired the franchise. Starting an eighty-year placing streak, this includes two winners. Karen Gallman in 2018 and Cinderella Obeñita in 2021.
