The redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models introduce a new display technology, touchscreen capabilities, Dynamic Island, and up to 16TB of storage, with Philippine prices starting at ₱214,990.
Apple has unveiled its all-new MacBook Pro lineup, introducing a series of major upgrades centered on a new tandem OLED display, touchscreen capabilities, and the performance of its M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
Available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, the new MacBook Pro features what Apple calls the PROLED XDR display, promising improved brightness, contrast, and color accuracy for professionals working in photography, video production, graphic design, and other demanding creative fields. The redesigned laptops also feature a thinner, lighter chassis, up to 24 hours of battery life, and expanded memory and storage configurations.
The new models will be available soon through Apple’s Philippine online store and authorized resellers, with prices starting at ₱214,990.
Tandem OLED Display Targets Professional Creators
The centerpiece of the new MacBook Pro is its PROLED XDR display, which uses tandem OLED technology to deliver enhanced brightness, contrast, and color reproduction.
According to Apple, the display reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness and offers a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It also supports ProMotion refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz, balancing smooth motion with power efficiency.
For professionals who rely on accurate color reproduction, the display supports both the P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, with more than 80 percent Rec. 2020 coverage for HDR video editing and color grading. Apple says its display engine continuously adjusts individual pixels to maintain brightness uniformity and grayscale accuracy.
An antireflective coating is designed to improve visibility in bright environments, while an optional nano-texture finish further reduces glare.
The 16-inch model also receives a slightly larger 16.3-inch display thanks to slimmer bezels, while the 14-inch version retains its more portable 14.2-inch screen.
Touchscreen Capabilities Come to MacBook Pro
In a significant change for the Mac lineup, Apple is introducing touchscreen support on the MacBook Pro for the first time.
Users will be able to interact directly with content through familiar gestures, including swiping, pinching to zoom, dragging and dropping elements, and arranging windows. The touchscreen is designed to complement rather than replace the traditional keyboard and trackpad.
Apple is also positioning the feature as a tool for creative professionals. Designers can draw directly on the display, musicians can interact with onscreen instruments, and developers can test touch-based experiences for their iOS and iPadOS applications.
The company says a redesigned hinge provides additional stability during touchscreen use, while the touch sensor is integrated into the display panel to reduce latency.
A range of third-party applications is expected to support the new interaction method, including Notion, Canva, Microsoft Office apps, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Cinema 4D, ZBrush, Shapr3D, and djay Pro.
Apple’s own creative applications, including Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Pixelmator Pro, are also being optimized to take advantage of touch input.
Dynamic Island Expands to the Mac
The new MacBook Pro also brings Apple’s Dynamic Island interface to the Mac for the first time.
Similar to its implementation on the iPhone, Dynamic Island provides quick access to notifications and ongoing activities. Users can interact with information such as incoming calls, music playback, and AirDrop requests without interrupting their current workflow.
Live Activities will also provide at-a-glance updates, adding another way to manage information while working.
M5 Pro and M5 Max Power Demanding Workflows
Apple designed the M5 Pro for developers, engineers, and creative professionals who handle demanding tasks such as compiling code, sequencing DNA, and editing multiple streams of 8K ProRes video.
Meanwhile, the M5 Max targets more intensive workloads, including 3D rendering, visual effects, film scoring, and on-device AI development. According to Apple, the chip can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on the device, depending on the model and workload.
Both chips feature Neural Accelerators integrated into their GPU cores, enhanced shader cores, and a third-generation ray-tracing engine. These technologies accelerate AI processing, improve lighting realism, and speed up rendering in supported applications.
The new MacBook Pro supports up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage, giving professionals additional room for large projects, datasets, and media libraries.
For graphics-intensive users, the M5 Pro model supports up to three external displays, while the M5 Max version supports up to four, in addition to the laptop’s built-in display.
Thinner Design, Longer Battery Life
Despite the upgraded display and performance, Apple says the new MacBook Pro is thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
The 14-inch model weighs approximately 3 pounds, while the 16-inch version weighs around 4 pounds. Apple says the larger model is 0.7 pounds lighter than before, making it easier to transport between workspaces and production environments.
Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours, depending on configuration and usage. Fast charging can replenish the battery to 50 percent in approximately 30 minutes.
Apple has also redesigned the thermal architecture to maintain sustained performance while directing warm air away from the display.
Upgraded Audio, Camera, and Connectivity
The new MacBook Pro retains its six-speaker sound system but introduces a redesigned woofer configuration that Apple says delivers 50 percent deeper bass. Updated tweeters, designed to improve clarity, while Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos provides a more immersive listening experience.
The laptop also includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones, and dedicated audio tuning for use with the lid closed when connected to an external display.
Connectivity options include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging, and a headphone jack. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 provide wireless connectivity, while Touch ID enables secure authentication.
macOS 27 Introduces Further Improvements
The new MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27, which Apple says brings performance and usability improvements across the operating system.
Updates include faster AirDrop transfers, improved network file browsing, and quicker loading of Safari start-page content. Apple has also rebuilt the search foundation behind Spotlight, Photos, and Mail to provide a more comprehensive and frequently updated index.
The operating system introduces refinements to the Liquid Glass interface, including improved readability, more uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and updated app icons. Maps, Notes, and Podcasts also receive improvements.
Professional Features Extend Beyond the Display
Apple is adding features aimed at specialized production and technical workflows.
The new display supports professional calibration and industry-standard reference modes for cinematic production, photography, print, and design. DICOM medical imaging reference modes also included for research and educational use.
Support for genlock synchronizes the display’s refresh rate with a camera’s capture timing, helping minimize visual artifacts in virtual production and on-set filming.
The company is also highlighting the integration of Apple silicon, macOS, and its creative software ecosystem, with touch-enabled workflows designed to work alongside familiar keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures.

A Major Shift for Apple’s Professional Laptop
With its tandem OLED display, touchscreen interaction, new M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, and lighter design, the latest MacBook Pro represents a substantial change to Apple’s professional laptop lineup.
The combination of expanded on-device AI capabilities, professional color tools, and touch-enabled creative applications could appeal particularly to developers, filmmakers, designers, and other users who depend on high-performance mobile workstations.
The starting price of ₱214,990 places the new models firmly in the premium segment, with higher-end configurations aimed at users who need substantial memory, storage, and graphics performance. For professionals who can take advantage of the new display and processing capabilities, the upgrades offer a broader set of tools for demanding work on the go.
