Inside The Color Bar: The Art of Transformation

Hair transformations often begin with a simple desire: to try something new, bring back a familiar look, or finally achieve the shade someone has been dreaming of.
But behind every beautiful hair color is a process that takes technical knowledge, creativity, and an understanding of the person who will wear it.
For The Color Bar, hair coloring is not simply another salon service. It is a craft built on expertise, intention, and trust.
The Man Behind The Color Bar
Founded by Jof Fantone, a professional who pursued formal hairstyling and hair-coloring education at Paul Mitchell The School in San Diego, The Color Bar was born from a vision to give hair color the specialized attention it deserves.

After becoming a licensed cosmetologist in the United States, Jof noticed a growing interest in hair coloring among Filipinos. At the same time, he saw many people struggling with brassiness, hair damage, and results that did not always suit them.
Rather than treating color as just another item on a salon’s service menu, he envisioned a space where it would receive the attention it deserved—one that combined technical knowledge, creativity, and personalized care.
When he returned to the Philippines, he partnered with Darwin Cerrado, whose expertise in business, strategy, and analytics complemented Jof’s background in hair and creativity. Together, they established The Color Bar, beginning with a small setup in a condominium in Bonifacio Global City before opening their first full branch in 2018.
Their vision extended beyond creating beautiful hair colors.
“I want every client to feel seen, heard, and understood. We do not begin with the color; we begin with the person. Before recommending a shade or technique, we try to understand the client’s personality, lifestyle, hair history, expectations, and how much maintenance they are comfortable with,” he emphasized.
Where Expertise Meets Intention
In an industry where trends can quickly influence the next hair transformation, The Color Bar takes a more deliberate approach. Rather than beginning with a particular shade or technique, the salon begins with the person.
Its philosophy, known as Color With Intention, centers on making every decision purposeful. Before recommending a transformation, the team considers the client’s hair condition and history, desired outcome, skin tone, lifestyle, and willingness to maintain the color.

“Our investment in education is another important difference. The entire House of Color Baristas is expected to keep learning because authority cannot simply be claimed. It must be earned through education, experience, consistency, and care,” he said.
For Jof, providing expert service also means being honest about what is possible. Sometimes, the best recommendation involves adjusting the original plan, taking a gradual approach, or waiting until the hair is healthy enough for another chemical treatment.
That is why consultation remains central to the salon’s process. By listening to clients and understanding their expectations, the team aims to create results that feel right for the individual rather than simply replicating a popular trend.
For The Color Bar, beautiful hair is the result, but trust is what makes the experience meaningful. Every transformation balances the client’s vision with professional judgment, honest guidance, and proper care.
Building the House of Color Baristas
As The Color Bar continued to grow, Jof recognized that its expertise could not remain concentrated in one person. To build a lasting brand, knowledge and skills had to be shared with a team capable of upholding the salon’s standards while bringing their own creative strengths to the craft.
That vision gave rise to the House of Color Baristas.
At The Color Bar, a Color Barista is more than a hairstylist who knows how to apply color. The role combines artistry, technical expertise, consultation, and education. Beyond understanding color theory and formulation, each professional must know how to listen, communicate recommendations, manage expectations, and care for the client throughout the process.

Developing this kind of team requires continuous learning. Through hands-on mentoring, collaboration, internal training, and The Color Bar Academy, the Color Baristas continue to strengthen their skills in specialized techniques such as balayage, blonding, highlights, and color correction.
“Creativity can be developed and technical skills can be strengthened through training. But the willingness to learn, collaborate, take responsibility, and care for others must already be present. We want people who are interested not only in building their own name, but also in helping the whole House become stronger,” he shared.
For Jof, the House of Color Baristas marks the next stage of The Color Bar’s growth, as he builds a culture that shares expertise, encourages creativity, and maintains consistent quality.
It is a reminder that building authority in the beauty industry is not simply about mastering a technique. It also means investing in people who are willing to keep learning and who understand the responsibility that comes with every transformation.
Because a successful hair transformation is not defined by color alone—it is shaped by the expertise behind the process, the care given to the person, and the trust built with every visit.
