Cross-over candidates are not new in the realms of pageantry, especially at Miss Universe. Whether it would be crossing over from one pageant to another or crossing over to another country. If a candidate sees an opportunity to shine elsewhere then that’s where she’ll go.

This is exactly what Sashi Chiesa and Paula Ortega have done. These two Filipina beauties are chasing their dream to go to Miss Universe, going the extra mile by competing overseas. With both giving it a shot to represent two different European countries, this is definitely an exciting development.

Will Spain and Switzerland crown these two Filipinas for Miss Universe? Let’s find out!

Paula Ortega for Miss Universe Spain

Paula Madarieta Ortega is 27-years-old and will be representing the autonomous community of Cataluña. Born and raised in Spain, Paula received her Nursing degree from the University of Barcelona.

Despite her Spanish upbringing, Paula is indeed a pure Filipina. A pageant veteran, Paula has competed in two national pageants in the Philippines both representing her family’s hometown of Albay. First, she was a Top 16 semifinalist at the inaugural Miss Universe Philippines pageant in 2020.

Second and most recently, she tried her luck at representing the Philippines again by joining Miss World Philippines 2022. Despite being a heavy favorite especially for the title of Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas, Paula only placed in the Top 15.

Sashi Chiesa for Miss Universe Switzerland

Born to a Swiss father and a Cebuana mother, Sashi is a 26-year-old Actress, earning her diploma at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theater in Los Angeles.

She first burst into the local pageant scene when she represented Lapu-Lapu City at this year’s Miss Universe Philippines.

Unfortunately, she didn’t make it into the Top 16.

Currently, she is one of the thirteen finalists vying for the title of Miss Universe Switzerland.

Will Paula and Sashi do the unthinkable? Miss Universe Switzerland will be on September 2. Meanwhile Miss Universe Spain will be on September 10.

Best of luck to both of you, Paula and Sashi! We hope to see those crowns on top of your heads. Prove to them how strong and powerful Filipina candidates truly are!
