Smashing Hits That Defined an Era of Disney Magic

1. “What I’ve Been Looking For” – High School Musical

    – Even though we were meant to like Troy and Gabriella’s version of “What I’ve Been Looking For” for the sake of the film, liking Sharpay and Ryan’s version of Chelsea’s song is very much unavoidable. Let’s face it, they know how to entertain the audience. Looks like their dance classes and voice lessons paid off.

Let’s not forget another bop of theirs, “Bop to the Top”. Another song which is also in the same film.

2. “This Is Me” – Camp Rock

   – Demi Lovato’s powerhouse vocals shook me when she took center stage in “This Is Me.” This is “The” anthem of self-discovery. This song captures the essence of finally embracing one’s true identity.

Though Demi’s and Joe’s relationship never lasted, the effect this song had on me did. It also became a gateway into discovering much of Demi Lovato’s discography.

3. “Gotta Go My Own Way” – High School Musical 2

   – I felt the heartache in this emotional ballad even more than the first installment of the franchise. Troy and Gabriella had to navigate the complexities of their relationship and individual growth. “Gotta Go My Own Way” is a huge reason why I love the High School Musical franchise.

Much like a Taylor Swift song, I’ll find myself bopping along to this song for more than one occasion.

In the sequel, the song appears again, this time being sung by other actors, and becomes more upbeat.
