Pick your filter: My top 7 Park Jimin Dance Performances

Pictures of Jimin from Season's Greetings 2022 and other performances

BTS’ Tik Tok account has been very active lately. Despite announcing their “hiatus” on June 14, 2022, they went on to their solo projects and schedules. Lately, it has gained the spotlight again with member Park Jimin and his dance videos spilling talent and hooking hearts.

Along with his appearances from here and there is the announcement of his Debut Solo Album ‘FACE’. The man himself has already made a name as an artist throughout BTS’ journey. And as he readies himself to take a leap for another chapter, let us look back to some of his best stage performances.

7 Park Jimin Dance Performances that I can’t get off my head

1. ‘I NEED U’ Intro Performance @2019 MAMA

Who would ever forget the iconic ‘I NEED U’ Solo Stage performance at the 2019 MAMA (M-Net Asia Music Awards)? Part of the intro for their group performance ‘Dionysus’, each member had their own solo stages and Jimin’s part had gained well-deserved recognition.

As the group made a different arrangement of their legendary song, Park Jimin did not disappoint with a delicate yet expressive performance. Looking so pure in white, every stretch of his arms and every turn of his feet were like the wailing of the song itself. An artist exposing not only the lyrics but the deepest call of a soul saying ‘I need you’.

2. Intro + IDOL Performance @2018 MAMA

Put him on the stage and he will perform, give him a hand-fan and he will serve you a performance of a lifetime. As one of the group’s dance line, 3J (Jungkook, j-hope, and Jimin), he made it clear as daylight that there is no prop or dance that he cannot nail in their Intro Performance for the 2018 MAMA. Sharp open and close of the fan with his body following the rhythm of the dance. Jimin’s eyes and hair seemed to dance as well that it got ARMYs enticed.

3. j-hope & Jimin’s Dance for LOVE YOURSELF Highlight Reel ‘起承轉結’ Film

“And when the lights start flashing like a photo booth and the stars exploding, we’ll be fireproof” will be stuck in your head because you will be repeating this performance over and over again. In BTS’ LOVE YOURSELF Highlight Reel ‘起承轉結’ Film back in 2017 where they are in a somewhat alternative universe, j-hope and Jimin had their dance routine with Troye Sivan’s song Youth  as part of the act.

The seven of them surprised us with their award-winning acting skills and concept on this one. But once you notice that the song and choreography was a happy one, j-hope and ITZY’s Ryujin’s version in the story was happy but with Jimin’s version it was haunting and filled with somewhat jealousy and insecurity. If you will, allow him to take you to a dance of hurt and tell you a painful story with every move without a word. Another performance by Park Jimin left us not only in awe but also in tears.

4. Opening Show Stage @ 2016 SBS Gayo Daejun

Jimin is known to be a great dancer in and out of BTS. One proof is his participation in the Opening Show Opening Show Stage of 2016 SBS Gayo Daejun along with other great artists of K-Pop. His graceful movements reflect how serious and passionate he is about dancing.

5. ‘Lie’ choreography

Saying that this is a song with deep lyrics, haunting melody, and fascinating choreography would never be a lie. Jimin has exhibited enchanting performances of his solo song “Lie” during their WINGS Tour. Moves smooth like a snake, portraying a predator ready to fetch his prey every time the first note drops. There was always a strong aura when he performed the song. All aggressive yet on beat, swift turns and gorgeous gestures from the beginning to the last second. Of course, the blindfold part of the choreography will forever be applause-worthy.

6. Dance Break Practice JIMIN TV Debut 2013

Anyone up for a Mochi-hip hop swag? Mochi is a glutinous rice flour sweet that for the fans somewhat resembles Jimin’s cheeks back then. Yet the young dancer proved that despite his cute features is a dancer fiery with passion in his TV debut back in their rookie days. As early as debut, Jimin has manifested appealing performances and continued to grow as the artist he is today.

7. ‘Filter’ choreography

A story of self-expression, many were surprised the moment the first strike of the guitar string dropped and there was Jimin in his natural habitat. It started with only him, then a mannequin with clothes, then the dancers who are believed to symbolize the “society”. Jimin’s performance of Filter is an interpretation of how society views one’s way of dressing up. Fans say the choreography depicts how Jimin is beyond societal norms and is a protest of breaking gender-stereotypes.

Honorable Mentions

Jimin has participated in covers and solo dances here and there. There are many more notable performances of the “eldest” of BTS’ maknae line. Some honorable mentions are him accompanying Jungkook in Coming of Age Ceremony dance cover, 3J Butter Special Performance, Map of the Soul ON:E Black Swan Solo Intro and more.
