OPINION: Underrated Korean Drama

South Korean dramas are receiving more attention outside their home country. Due to globalization and the fast-growing world wide web, non-Korean consumers could enjoy the media products from SoKor. Additionally, these Kdramas have become good entertainment materials for all because of their unique storylines. Moreover, the excellent portrayal of actors also contributes to its worldwide recognition.

Evidently, many Kdramas have become viral and have received different international recognition. For example, Squid Game. This drama received tons of local and international recognition due to its success.

However, there are many Kdrama as well that are underappreciated. Some dramas deserve the same level of attention as the Squid Game receives.

Prison Playbook

The creator of this drama is the legendary Lee Woo-Jung. He is the one who writes the famous drama series Reply and Hospital Playlist. However, unlike other drama series by Woo-Jung, Prison Playbook remains underrated.

Prison Playbook is a beautiful drama series that follows the lives of prisoners, their families, and the correctional personnel on duty. It primarily tells the tale of Kim Je-hyuk, a famous baseball pitcher. After protecting his sister from a sexual assault, the court ruled him guilty of assault.

This is a complete package drama. It has tons of lessons to learn and bunches of humorous lines that will make you laugh.

The Sound of Magic

If you love musical drama and magic, you will probably like this KDrama. This is a promising drama considering the attempt to combine magic and musical genres in one drama series. However, in the cluster of 2022 Kdramas, The Sound of Magic receives less attention compared to others.

The story revolves around Yoon A-yi (Choi Sung-eun), a high school student who works part-time jobs to support herself and her younger sister. On the other hand, Na Il-deung is her classmate with whom she frequently battles for the best grade. Over time, they start to develop affection for one another. The plot goes up when Yoon A-Yi runs across Magician Ri-Eul (Ji Chang-wook) at an amusement park.

Moreover, considering all their first attempts, this drama deserves recognition for their bravery and trying to create history. Therefore, stream this one.

Splash Splash Love

I think if you are a fan of Yoo Doo-joon, you probably have watched this already. However, if not, then you probably do not know the existence of Splash Splash Love.

The story centers on Dan-bi, a senior in high school. On rainy days, she may travel anywhere because of her power. One day, Dan-bi cannot handle the stress of her university admission exam and flees to a playground. Later, she steps into a puddle and finds herself transported to the Joseon era.

The storyline of this drama is fantastic. Moreover, the actors did well to make this drama light and adorable. So, stream this as well, especially if you are looking for a fast-paced drama.

Missing 9

Despite having Chanyeol as one of the cast, this drama remains underrated. I think the reason why this drama has been underappreciated is because of its genre. For me, 2017 is the year of continuous domination of rom-com Korean dramas. Therefore, dramas in the mystery genre, like Missing 9, have been left behind.

The story centers on nine people from Legend Entertainment. They travel on a private plane for a concert. However, the aircraft later takes part in an unexplained disaster. The nine individuals live, but they are marooned on a remote island. Four months later, Ra Bong-Hee, the sole person who survived the plane accident, returns to South Korea.

Each of the nine people in this drama has their own story. Learning their unique stories, you will surely get an interest in delving into each one of the characters. Stream this drama because this one is a great thriller story.

For me, this is one of the best historical dramas that I have ever watched. This one is totally different from other historical dramas because of its period. Other dramas focus on the Joseon period. However, this one primarily focuses on the Japanese occupation era in Korea.

The story revolves around three resistance warriors during the 1930s Korean Japanese occupation. They are reincarnated as best-selling authors, a fan, and ghostwriters. Moreover, this drama is about comradery, friendship, love, and treachery.

In addition, this drama has a good plotline if you love the concept of reincarnation. Moreover, the character mapping in this drama is incredible. This element connects to the theme of reincarnation.

There is indeed an abundance of new and incredibly good KDrama today. And because of this, some dramas do not receive the same level of attention as others.

These are just some of the underrated Korean dramas among many. Therefore, as viewers, we should use our power to calibrate their current status of being underappreciated.
