Judging the courtroom looks of Anna Delvey — Netflix’s ‘Inventing Anna’

Anna Delvey

I think one of the best decisions I’ve made in this early part of 2022 is to sit through the boring and dragging first half of episode one of Inventing Anna, the new hit Netflix series. This is because I loved every minute of it—I’m obsessed with the show and I’m really invested in the life of Anna Delvey and the people involved in it.

So, basically, it is the dramatization (even though the story itself is clearly really full of drama) of the real-life story of Anna Delvey. She can be described as the fake German Heiress who managed to break through the scene of the high society of New York City.

Anna, to put it simply, fooled her way to the top of the hierarchy by befriending the richest and wealthiest people of the Big Apple.

The 25-year-old at the time was able to closely secure the biggest loans of the biggest banks in the city for the sake of her Anna Delvey Foundation or ADF.

We are not here, however, to do a review of the show even though I clearly would love to. Maybe, some other time. What I’m here to do is give my personal critique of her courtroom fashion. If you haven’t watched the show or if you aren’t familiar with the Anna Delvey story, you might be wondering, “Why the fuck would you do that?” Well, baby, here’s why.

Anna Delvey is known, not only for her elaborate and genius schemes in business, but she’s actually very famous for her courtroom appearances because of how she dressed up during her trial.

Anna refused to go out without wearing clothes that she thinks are “worthy” to be displayed.

Instead of the media focusing on the facts of the case, she actually gained attention because of how she wanted to look good. She became an internet sensation way back at the time, and I guess, more so today because of her Netflix series.

So, now, let’s see if her clothes are worthy of the attention they have received. Are they really that great?

Spoiler: No, they aren’t. They’re underwhelming.

But for fun, let’s give it a go and bless these looks some critiques.

I’m so bewildered at how these turned into a huge fiasco, honestly. They’re all very plain.

Michael Kors shift dress

First of all, this photo is very blurry. Second, I think this look is… neat. The fit of the black dress complements her body and the choker is a nice touch. She wore this with, of course, her iconic black Céline eyeglasses. This courtroom look is both mysterious and classy.

This is the only look I think is worthy of attention.

YSL top | Victoria Beckham pants

Another black look, well, it’s in court. Maybe she wanted to appear formal. That top looks great, but the sleeves could’ve been a little puffier. Her pants though, I didn’t like the fit, it looks lousy. If she really wanted it, maybe she should’ve worn black pumps, instead of these flats.

H&M sweater | Uniqlo pants

I heard she hired a stylist for this trial but I’m not sure about that. I mean, maybe she wanted to look and feel comfortable in this. But for the sake of judging it, I’m gonna say it looks very plain, really. Maybe she should’ve styled this with a jacket or coat.

ZARA dress

This dress is cute, I like the length. I approve of how it is above the knee. Again, I’m sorry but I’m not really a fan of flats, particularly this one. It’s just so dull. A pair of sandals, maybe?

“Little black dress”

This one isn’t a famous brand, I think. That’s why it isn’t the caption. I’m so tired of the choker and the stockings. Again, that black flats. The dress itself looks good, but we’ve seen this before. Yey, Anna, give us nothing.

White dress

I don’t like this dress. It looks very cheap. It is said that they intentionally made her wear white because this is the finale. However, turns out the jury didn’t reach a verdict.

Anyway, do I really need to say it? The choker and the flats, really? I thought they exerted effort into these.

(Another) Black Dress

I’m sorry but I’m just so repetitive… just like her looks…

Plain, plain, plain, and cheap. I’m done. I don’t like that fabric. Might as well just be made of tarp.

Well, that’s all of her looks. Were you as underwhelmed as I am? If you are, just watch the series on Netflix… it’s so good. I love the drama around the trial, Anna and her “friends,” the business side of things, the hustle, everything.

Also, the outfits that Julia Garner wore there are the ones that are truly worth talking about. Gosh, I love her. She’s a really amazing actress.
