Eyeing to raise funds for abused children, Anne Curtis has begun her hands-on training for the Tokyo Marathon 2023.

Tokyo Marathon is an annual sporting event first launched in 2007 while held in the capital of Japan. It’s the largest marathon in Asia and one of the six World Marathon Majors. Its counterparts are in Boston (Massachusettes), London (England), Berlin (Germany), Chicago (Illinois), and New York (New York State).

For Curtis, she had put off the intention to join the Tokyo Marathon since 2019. As she finally decided to partake this year, the actress-host intends to run for a good cause.

On Sunday, Curtis took to her Instagram account to share that she had just completed a 32-kilometer run. It turned out that it was part of her two-month preparations for the Tokyo Marathon 2023

“32 km. I can’t believe I did it. Now, it’s time to taper for @tokyomarathon. I’ve deferred my entry since 2019 and decided to commit on January 1 to finally do it.”

Moreover, Curtis added that promoting charitable causes motivates her to run, consistent with her previous marathons. The It’s Showtime host then unveiled the more details in a separate post which she captioned:

“Running with a purpose has always made each kilometer even more meaningful. And for my third marathon, I’m dedicating it to help(ing) raise funds for child victims of violence, abuse, and exploitation. I met with the UNICEF PH team, and I learned about how children and women are in need of child protection services.”

“Last year, there was at least 9,000 cases of child abuse reported. But the cases are probably much higher. @unicefphils Child Protection program supports TeleCPUs for abused children. (They) are one-stop centers where abused children and women can safely and privately access services for FREE.”

“Every donation, no matter how big or small, can help keep TeleCPUs nationwide open and running so that our vulnerable children can get urgent help and start healing from trauma and stigmatization.”

Curtis explained that she would personally match the total amount of funds raised to aid more beneficiaries in the objective.

Looking back, Curtis joined the London Marathon 2018 as an advocate of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund- Philippines. At that time, she raised PHP 300,000, thrice the set target donations for children in Marawi.

The Tokyo Marathon 2023 will happen on March 5 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Tokyo, Japan.
