is the iPhone 11 Pro still worth it in 2022?

The iPhone 11 Pro and the 11 Pro Max received a massive price drop in the used and refurbished market. But, with the newer iPhones on the horizon such as the iPhone 14, is it still worth buying?

An iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max in good condition can cost around thirty thousand pesos or more. But, if you are lucky, you might find it for less. So, it is understandable if some would consider still buying it in 2022. After all, the iPhone 11 series still pack a punch even by today’s standards.

I went ahead and bought one. A Midnight Green iPhone 11 Pro with 256 gigabytes of storage for 34,000 Pesos. So, together, we will answer the question “Is it worth it?”

What’s the everyday experience like on an iPhone 11 Pro in 2022?

The iPhone 11 Pro performs as well as any flagship. As a flagship phone itself, daily tasks such as browsing social media, video streaming, and even gaming are a breeze to handle. The A13 bionic chip inside the 11 Pro provides enough horsepower to provide a buttery smooth experience in the device. So far, I haven’t experienced any lag while using it for different tasks.

The Super Retina XDR OLED display on the iPhone 11 Pro also provides a pleasant viewing experience. Couple that with the dual speakers found on the device, and you won’t be missing out on too much in that department. As for the cameras on the iPhone 11 Pro, it’s still good by today’s standards.

Despite lacking the innovative features you find on modern flagships, the triple-lens cameras are still competitive. After all, the cameras are what gave it the “Pro” moniker.

The iPhone 11 Pro still produces excellent shots with amazing details both in the daytime and nighttime. This goes for the front camera as well. Meanwhile, for video recording capabilities, the cameras can record HD up to 60 FPS and 4K up to 60 FPS with video stabilization.

Charging speed and battery health are also acceptable in 2022. The iPhone 11 Pro with its 3046 mAh battery capacity is enough to last a day or more without a heavy workload. It also supports 18 watts of fast charging and Qi wireless charging. But, if we are talking battery life, then the bigger iPhone 11 Pro Max might be more worth considering it has a bigger battery.

With all that being said, the iPhone 11 Pro or the 11 Pro Max (if size matters for you) are still able to tick the boxes when it comes to giving you what you need on a phone in 2022.

But, what’s the iPhone 11 Pro lacking?

Despite being good in 2022, the iPhone 11 Pro is no longer the top dog of smartphones.

There’s no doubt that the competition has gone ahead and left the iPhone 11 Pro by quite a margin. Even if it is still good in 2022, there are some features that you will miss. One of these is the Pro Motion display. Pro Motion is Apple’s take on high refresh rate displays which you can find on newer iPhone models. And, if you are yet to try a high refresh rate display, you are missing out and will continue to miss out on the iPhone 11 Pro.

I am also using an android device with a 144 hertz refresh rate and the difference from the standard 60 hertz found on the 11 Pro’s display is noticeable. the higher refresh rate display just feels smoother and a lot faster. Another thing that it lacks is a 5G connection. For some, not having 5G is a deal-breaker. But, in my case, it does not matter that much. Still, it would have been nice. Thankfully, Apple introduced 5G on their newer models.

So, is it still worth it in 2022?

It’s time for the verdict. Is it still worth it? well, the answer is complex. If you are someone who wants to try out the iOS experience for the very first time, then you won’t go wrong with the iPhone 11 Pro or the 11 Pro Max. The phone still provides a good experience despite being a couple of years old. Apple is also likely to be supporting the device with software updates until 2025. So, we can expect iPhone 11 Pro to get iOS 19 or iOS 20 which is not bad for longevity. Apple is well known for keeping their phones relevant for a long time and in that sense, yes it is still worth it.

But, if you have the budget to spare, then maybe go for an iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 mini instead. They have the better processors and 5G support that you will not get on an iPhone 11 Pro. However, if you are seriously planning to upgrade your current iOS device and plan to stay in the Apple ecosystem, then ditch the iPhone 11 pro and consider buying the newer iPhone 13 pro models or wait for the iPhone 14 series to be released later this year.

When buying a new phone, it is important to weigh the pros and cons. Avoid spending big bucks on a smartphone when you have better options to choose from. Your money might be better spent on a different phone, or a newer model. And, the next time you make a choice, ask yourself, Is it worth it?
