SEE: Billboard Music Awards 2022 reveals list of nominations

Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) finally announced the finalist for its 2022 edition. This year’s BBMA recognizes the most successful performers from all genres of music in 62 categories.

The coveted ICON award recognizes record-breaking musicians and their impact on music. In addition to the prestige of BBMA are the outstanding performances, surprising collaborations, buzzworthy pop culture moments, and the presentation of the distinguished awards.  

The Weeknd and Doja Cat are the frontrunners among the finalists. Justin Bieber, Ye (formerly Kanye West), and Olivia Rodrigo are the next three nominees. Each of them receiving 13 nominations.

The Weeknd

The Weeknd is a finalist in 17 categories, comprising top artist, top male artist, and top Hot 100 artist. “Save Your Tears (Remix),” his duet with Ariana Grande, is up for six awards.

Doja Cat

Meanwhile, Doja Cat is the most nominated female finalist, receiving 14 nominations in all, including top artist, top female artist, and top Hot 100 artist. Her album Planet Her is a finalist for two prizes, and her Grammy-winning blockbuster “Kiss Me More,” which she co-wrote with SZA, is nominated for top Hot 100 single, top collaboration, and the new top viral song category.

Justin Bieber, Ye, and Olivia Rodrigo

Justin Bieber, Ye (previously Kanye West), and Olivia Rodrigo received 13 nominations. With 21 prior awards, Bieber is the third most decorated performer in BBMA history. Only Drake (29 wins) and Taylor Swift (28 wins) are ahead of him (25). This year, all three of these musicians are finalists in various categories, therefore the standings may change.

With nine nods each, Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran earned nine nominations. The Kid LAROI has a total of eight. BTS, Givēon, and Taylor Swift nod seven nominations. 

Billboard and its data partners determine the nominees and winners based on specific criteria. It includes significant fan engagements with music, such as album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social engagement. 

For the first time since 2019, the presentation will be broadcast from its usual home, the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, on May 15.
