Roberta Tamondong is appointed as Miss Grand International 2022 5th runner-up
Miss Grand International officially appoints Roberta Tamondong as the newest 5th runner-up for its 2022 edition. The announcement was made today, October 30 through MGI’s official social media accounts.
The caption reads:
“Miss Grand International Organization would like to announce the appointment of Roberta Angela Tamondong, Miss Grand Philippines 2022 as the new 5th runner-up of Miss Grand International 2022. She will be a part of the Top10 and will continue her mission with the MGI team for a year.”
Roberta’s appointment came after the resignation of Miss Grand Mauritus Yuvna Rinishta.
In case you aren’t aware of the mechanics of the pageant, aside from the winner and her four runners-up, the remaining five from the Top 10 are collectively given the role of 5th runners-up.
As the last Miss Grand Philippines under Binibining Pilipinas, Roberta fought hard to win the country’s first golden crown. After failing to advance in the Top 10, she finishes her journey as part of the Top 20 semifinalists.
On October 28, Miss Grand International releases a statement, announcing that Yuvna resigns from her position. Stating that she is unable to sign the contract and complete her duties and obligations.
Because of this, she can no longer use the title and her replacement will be announced very soon.
Shortly after, Miss Grand Mauritius speaks out, calling the organization’s statement false. In their defense, they explain that Yuvna ‘s resignation was caused by MGI’s recent behavior, which is in no way aligned with her and the organization’s values.
Yuvna, who wasn’t initially in the Top 20, later won Miss Popular Vote, therefore automatically putting her in the Top 10.
