Introducing the river from the Island of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur, Mindanao Philippines which is also known as the Enchanted River. The Hinatuan Enchanted River is about 24 meters or 80 feet long and 24 meters or 80 feet wide. The river is blown forth from an underground cave system.

Alex Santos began exploring the cave in 1999 and continued until 2014. It led to the discovery of a secret cave with a depth of 30 meters. This mystical site marked by its shimmering, crystal clear blue waters, surrounded by plants and trees, has, therefore, become one of the premier tourist destinations of the province.

Why is it called the Enchanted River?

This was not known as Enchanted River for nothing. Many people believe that this is an enchanted place because other than its beauty, there are tales of mermaids, magical fairies, and spirits.

Also, there is a magical moment when the caretaker rings the bell at exactly 12 p.m., requesting that everyone exit the water for “feeding time.” And when Hinatuan’s “hymn” is performed, a massive school of fish appears out of nowhere. The fish congregate around the river’s mouth, where all the fish and other sea creatures gather to be fed. This was magical, especially the fish looks like they were dancing to the hymn.

Until now nobody knows where the water comes from or where it goes as it runs into the Philippine Sea. What is the source of the water? Is this anything that came from a spring? Is it from the sea, or is it from the land? This is still a puzzle.
