My 5 Go-To Korean Comedy-Action Movies
Since I have spent most of my time here in our home because of the pandemic, I was able to binge-watch several Korean movies. Most of them are drama, thriller, comedy, and action. So here goes my top five Korean Comedy-Action movies!
A Comedy-Action Movie Showing Societal Issues
Midnight Runners
This movie is a mix of funny and dark scenarios, starring Park Seo-Joon and Kang Ha-neul. They are friends who study at Korean National Police University. When they left the university premises for a quick bash, they witnessed a kidnapping incident. Then they found themselves torn between returning to the university or using what they learned from it. The disturbing scenes in the movie widely reflect the lack of proper implementation of laws to safeguard the citizens of a country. It also taught the watchers that people are still willing to help and risk their lives to help those in danger.
If you’re looking for an action x comedy movie that would make you catch your breath, then check this movie out.
A Comedy Movie Starring Ra Mi-Ran and Lee Sung-Kyung
Miss and Mrs.Cops
Meanwhile, the movie Miss & Mrs. Cops, led by veteran actresses Ra Mi-ran (Mi-Yeong) and Lee Sung-Kyung (Ji-Hye), displays several societal issues. Such issues as drugging and raping women are happening in Korea and many countries. Mi-Yeong was formerly a notorious detective for solving huge cases and worked with Ji-Hye, a rookie in the field, who got assigned to Mi-Yeong’s workplace after being a headache in her headquarters. This movie dramatically depicts how women can do such things that people think only men can. Miss & Mrs. Cops, overall, is full of comedy and true-to-life events, and the stars portrayed their characters well.
When I first saw this movie, I never thought that the fierce face of Lee Sung-Kyung would fit a comedy movie. And though this movie has much cursing, the fighting scenarios are all on point.
A Restaurant Turned Hideout
Extreme Job
Next up is a movie that’s a little closer to my heart because it involves food in its plot. After failing the last mission, Ryu Seung-Yong’s (Captain Ko) head deployed his team of narcotics detectives on their redeeming operation. They are to look after a drug gang, and can you guess where their hideout is? In a chicken restaurant! However, it was closing down, so they decided to buy it from the owner. To get rid of suspicions of people and the gang, they made their recipe that unexpectedly turned things around.
Not only is the recipe here looking so good to try, but the full-pack comedy and action scenes would surely keep you on the edge of your seats.
Thrilling Action in a Plane
Okay! Madam
Uhm Jung-Hwa (Mi-Young) is Park Sung-Woong’s (Seok-Hwan) wife. The start of this movie is full of comedy, as it shows how envious she is of their colleagues who travel abroad for vacation. One day, while Seok-Hwan worked in his repair shop, he won a free trip to Hawaii. They rejoiced as it would be their first international trip together, not knowing that it would be one heck of a plane ride. Because terrorists are on board the same plane as theirs, hunting a secret agent, causing them to hijack the plane.
You’ll learn more about how the couple saved the plane and its passengers when you give this movie a shot!
There is no such thing as Accidents
The Accidental Detective
Starring Kwon Sang-woo (Kang Dae-man) and Dong-il Sung (Noh Tae-soo), you can’t go wrong with watching The Accidental Detective. Dae-man owns a comic bookstore and babysits their baby while her wife works in an office. He is into solving various cases as if he is a frustrated detective. In comparison, Tae-soo is a cop on the verge of getting demoted. Then a mutual friend got arrested for murder, making them work as a duo. Dae-man’s situation depicts an individual passionate about something, yet people always doubt their judgment and capabilities.
This movie will surely keep your mind puzzled with how they solve the case and laugh over its comedy scene punches.

Aside from writing, she loves sports and has been a varsity student for eight years. But as a kid, she dreamt of being a chef one day. That is why she, too, has fallen in love with the art of cooking. That's Lorwillyn, mostly known as "Joy" in their household, and she may not have the most joyous face you'd ever see when you happen to bump into her. Worry not 'cos she isn't mad nor vexed. She's probably just thinking about what update in the story she should write next.
