Girls’ Generation confirmed to make a comeback as OT8!

Sones, prepare yourself because comeback is real for the Girls’ Generation as full-group performing, after five years of waiting!

On Tuesday, May 17, SM Entertainment announced that Girls’ Generation is working on their new album in August to commemorate the group’s 15th anniversary, as per the Soompi report.

The forthcoming record will be the group’s first album with all eight members. The last time they performed as a whole was during their sixth album, Holiday Night, in 2017.

Fans will also have the opportunity to see Girls’ Generation on various TV shows and via their own reality show in addition to their album release.

Other information, like the album’s actual title and release date, is soon to be announced.

What Happened to Girls’ Generation before

During their 10th anniversary year in 2017, the band’s agency, SM Entertainment, announced on October 9 that three group members opted out of renewing their contracts with the label. 

According to Yonhap News, Tiffany, Seohyun, and Sooyoung have allegedly departed SM to pursue solo projects. The latter two will pursue performing careers. While Tiffany, who was born and reared in California, will continue her education in the United States.

The SM Entertainment agency has extended the contracts of Taeyeon, YoonA, Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Sunny.

In spite of being on a different path, the members have remained close and have been vocal about wanting to make music together again, as a group.

Girls’ Generation debuted in 2009 as a nine-member group, though member Jessica Jung left in 2014. The Girls’ Generation debuted in 2009 with nine members, but Jessica Jung quit in 2014. “Into the New World,” “Gee,” “Lion Heart,” and “I Got A Boy” are among their best-known tracks.
