Common stereotypes I experience as someone who lives in Laguna

As one of the locals who live in Laguna, hearing common stereotypes has been a part of my daily life. Meeting people from different regions in the country could be a bizarre experience at first. Lessons and history that we have learned during our school days about several provinces may have contributed to others’ curious perceptions.

Everything about the Enchanted Kingdom.

The question Have you ever been to the Enchanted Kingdom? has been a frequent question asked to me all the time. Another question frequently asked me is whether I am always at the Enchanted Kingdom. If only I were rich then, certainly I would be traveling hours each day just to be there in the Enchanted Kingdom. This has become the most common stereotype that occurs every single time.

The Enchanted Kingdom is located at Sta. Rosa, Laguna. As a person who lives in San Pedro, Laguna, it could be a far hour-long trip just to get there. However, SLEX paves the way for a much easier and faster way to the amusement park. But, to set things straight, going to the Enchanted Kingdom every single day is fun yet a ridiculous idea. Just to think of it, EK has more outside visitors rather than visitors from Laguna province itself.

Cold weather stereotypes.

Cold weather occurs as another common stereotype among the locals in the province. Laguna goes from lukewarm to scorching hot. It can also depend on where you live in the city. However, I can testify that Laguna, by all means, highly depends on the rain to be considered a cold province. The heating temperature in every province is close to the weather in the nation’s capital region.

However, some places in Laguna could be cold like the uphill places of Kalayaan and Liliw. The rest of the place, let us consider comes with bearable heat along the whole province. As a matter of fact, the heat from the sun helps the province, especially Los Banos, to retain its reputation as the hot spring capital of the Philippines. Just imagine a rainy trip to a hot spring, which seems and sounds boring for tourists.

Traveling stereotype.

Laguna serves as one of the gateways to Metro Manila. Being part of Greater Manila, the province is an ideal place for employees who have their workplace in the capital. However, it does not mean that being in Laguna requires you to only allow 10 minutes of traveling.

Another stereotype when it comes to Laguna folks is that most of them are near the capital. However, that is not the case at all. Theoretically, it may seem that Manila and Laguna are not far from each other. However, the current conflict with the Philippines transport system does not allow the locals to have shorter time travel when going to the capital.

These stereotypes are obviously just for fun. However, looking much deeper into things, there are problems that can be seen within these stereotypes. For instance, the transportation system and the current climate change have been affecting not just the locals of Laguna but all of us in the Philippines. Let us call and demand action in order to attain a much better living.
