BIGBANG to launch new music after 4-year hiatus

After four years, the kings of K-pop are back with new music this spring.

YG Entertainment confirmed on Monday, February 7, that the phenomenal boy group BIGBANG is finally making their long-awaited comeback, now as a four-member group.

“Big Bang is scheduled to release a new song this spring,” their entertainment agency said in a statement. “They have finished recording and are currently preparing to shoot their music video.”

Their last song release, as a five-member group, was back in 2018. It was titled “Flower Road.” Shortly after dropping the song, the members enlisted in the military.

Since “Flower Road,” member Seungri was involved in multiple controversies and was sentenced to three years in prison on prostitution charges. He announced his retirement from the entertainment industry and left BIGBANG.

Now, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, and Daesung are back in the recording studio to give their fans, V.I.P, the music they have been waiting for.

However, T.O.P’s exclusive contract with YG Entertainment has come to an end, although the agency confirmed that the rapper will be joining the group activities in his discretion. He is working on his career as an artist and as an entrepreneur, according to reports.

“We respected T.O.P’s desire to broaden the scope of his individual activities aside from just his promotions with BIGBANG, and he successfully came to an agreement about this with other members,” YG Entertainment stated. “As long as the conditions are right, T.O.P will always participate in BIGBANG’s activities whenever he is able.”

The group officially debuted on August 19, 2006, during the YG Family 10th Anniversary Concert. Since then, they contributed to the “Korean Wave” and were dubbed as the “Kings of K-Pop.”

The group has reportedly sold over 150 million records globally, which would rank them among the best-selling boy bands in the world. Additionally, Forbes Korea ranked them as one of the most powerful celebrities in South Korea from 2009 to 2016.

They are the talent and voices behind hit songs Bang, Bang, Bang, Fantastic Baby, and Loser. Just recently, Fantastic Baby became BIGBANG’s second music video to hit 500 million views on YouTube, after Bang, Bang, Bang.
