What it is Like to Live with a Round-Shaped Face
Full cheekbones. Almost nonexistent jawline. Plump nose. If you are familiar with these, I am pretty sure you know what a round face is. For some people, shape is not really important. But for most, including myself, shape matters!
Growing up with a round face has always been a blessing and kind of a curse for me. Why? These are my reasons.
I Never Know Which Haircut I Will Have
There are numerous things I need to consider every time I get a haircut. I cannot just search the trending haircuts nowadays and give them to my hairstylist to be their guide.
Luckily, the internet is free. According to a beauty blog, the haircuts that suit us the most should always flatter our faces’ shape. Instead of opting for short hairstyles, I always choose the ones that are layered and long enough to surpass my chin. This elongates my face and gives me those angles I biologically do not have. But, more often than not, I choose to just play safe instead. My go-to has always been medium layered bob cut with curtain bangs, much like the picture below.
Even Choosing Eyewear Feels Like an Exam
A haircut is one thing. Eyewear, on the other hand, is another discussion. While you can trick your way around a horrible haircut, it is not the same with eyewear, especially if you need it to function.
When I had to choose a pair of glasses, I had one thing on my mind: angles. Since a round face is usually soft on the edges, I had to improvise in order to have the illusion of a gorgeous bone structure. Currently, I am using square-shaped specs that are both practical for everyday usage and flattering on my face.
I am Always the Target of Gigil
Because of my chubby cheeks, I am always the target of gigil. I am not lying when I say a week would never go by without someone pinching, touching, or noticing my cheeks.
As an ambivert, there were times when it would be a disturbance. But now, I realized that because of my cheeks, I look more approachable than I actually am. That is a big deal considering the nature of my job.
It Feels like I Never Age
This is what I meant when I say having round cheeks is a blessing! People would always say I have a baby face.
Because of my features, I was able to achieve that innocent and youthful look. Though it is disadvantageous sometimes (especially when I badly want to have fun), the pros still outweigh the cons.
Some people think that having a round face is a struggle. Well, that is true. But that does not mean we cannot find a way to use it to our advantage. After all, confidence and presentation are where all roads meet.
Aside from being a self-proclaimed caffeine-dependent person, Franchesca believes that she is a writer too. Because of her desire to escape mundanity, most of her time is spent in her bed watching TV series or her nose in a book. Additionally, she can be found wandering the streets, museums, and theaters of Manila. When asked about her philosophy in life, she will answer, “God is a woman, and my lola is the proof!”
