Vivo X80 Pro: Take it or leave it?

The Vivo X lineup, known for its camera features and capabilities, has something new to offer! Within the last two generations of this lineup, Vivo continues with its Zeiss branding. Indeed, this company’s ultimate camera phone is something to behold.

In a world where the same camera features are getting more and more used by various smartphones, Vivo is on another level. Having that said, Vivo X80 Pro‘s camera hardware in particular comes with a lot of new innovations and claims.

Design and Build Quality

Design-wise, the first thing that is highly noticeable about this phone is its camera bump. This bump has a circular camera arrangement within, adding more spice to its features. Vivo X80 Pro has a glass back that tapers into the phone’s aluminum frame.

Moving on to the front, its display has a 6.78 inches LTPO3 AMOLED with a QHD Resolution. More to that, the curved screen adaptively refreshes on 120 Hertz. The curve and the adaptiveness of the screen add to the whole pro experience of the phone. Spicing things up, the screen is quite competitive in the brightness department as well. By using the manual slider, the device can reach a maximum of 490 nits. And in Auto Mode, it can boost up to 1000 nits under the bright sun.

And under the display of the phone rests the fingerprint sensor. It has a major improvement compared to the last year’s model. This year, the phone has a large ultrasonic sensor which is easier and more comfortable to use.

Like the pro on last year’s lineup tho, this phone has an IP68 rating of protection against water and dust. The phone should survive submersion in water for several minutes, as the company claims.

Vivo X80 Pro comes in three colors – Cosmic Black, Blue, and Orange. However, in the global market, only Cosmic Black is available.

Performance and Battery

At the heart of the Vivo X80 Pro is the current flagship chipset – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Performance-wise, this phone does not disappoint. According to the brand, it can handle daily tasks, even multitasking, and heavy gaming.

Compared to its predecessor, it racks a larger battery of 4700 mAh. Though it falls short compared to what the other flagship phone offers, it still gets the job done! And as compensation, out of the box, we get a Vivo Flash Charge 80W adapter. Using this designated charger, we can charge the phone from 0 to 88% in just half an hour. And to fully charge it, Vivo claims that it only took 39 minutes to do so.

This phone also supports 50W wireless charging, tho you need to get a proprietary Vivo Charging Pad for that speed.

Storage Options

Out of the box, Vivo X80 Pro runs on the latest Funtouch 12 over Android 12 for its global version.

For its storage options, it starts at a base storage of 256 GB ROM and 8GB of RAM. Though you can opt to choose from these as well:

256GB ROM and 12GB RAM
512GB ROM and 12GB RAM

The phone does not support a memory card slot, though. But given the availability of storage options to choose from, do we really need one?

Camera and its features

Essentially, the quad-camera setup is just like last year, having few changes here and there. There is a new sensor for the main camera, and the gimbal stabilization has moved from the ultrawide to the 2X zoom lens.

Overall, the main camera is a 50 MP lens and 8 MP Periscope Telephoto Lens, these both have an OIS in them. Moving on, the 12 MP 2X Telephoto Lens integrates the Gimbal OIS, and the 48 MP Ultrawide that can take macro shots. These lenses can take up to 8K video resolution. Truly, a phone that is pro on its own, at least based on papers!

On the front, the phone has a 32 MP wide selfie cam that supports 4K@30 fps video resolution.

Though the features are quite awesome. It is not justifiable with its price range. It starts at around 59,999 Php, quite pricey, I know. Though Vivo claims it to be the best camera phone for the price. But apart from its cameras, the phone is just like any other flagship out there in the open. With that, should you take the Vivo X80 Pro? Or would you just leave it and choose another one.
