Valuable Takeaways from Barbie: The Movie

The 2023 movie, Barbie, has drawn huge hype from netizens around the world. And as I’ve watched it from our local cinema, it never disappoints! It truly is a profoundly meaningful and impactful movie that lies under pink fabulous clothing.

Valuable Takeaways from Barbie: The Movie

The movie was starred by Margot Robbie as Barbie, and Ryan Gosling as Ken. And it somehow represented the women and men in the real world. Meanwhile, Barbie Land is a representation of how the world would be with women ruling.

Furthermore, that’s not just it. The movie is also a love letter to women as it depicted how we shouldn’t hate women for wanting feminine things. It also shows how women suffered from patriarchy in the real world for ages.

The movie, in general, is eye-opening and empowering. However, despite the metaphors of the movie, it has shared numerous takeaways that people can learn from.

Let no one and nothing define you, you are your capabilities and purpose – you are your own.

You will never be defined by the material things you’ve had. You’ll never be the people who you kept and left because you are your own. You can stand tall because your confidence is fueled by the love that you have for yourself — which gives you power over yourself, and what you can do.

Success is achievable even without a Ken.

You can achieve greater things, even without a Barbie, too! With heartfelt dedication and unwavering consistency in pursuing your dreams, success is undoubtedly within reach. Regardless of your gender, you can do YOU.

Maybe, you’ll just need an Allan. A supportive figure, regardless of gender, that will push and encourage you in every step you take.

The beauty of diversity is undeniable.

As Sasha reiterated in her movie lines, Barbie has led little children to have unrealistic expectations about their bodies, which also causes sexualization. However, that isn’t the goal of Barbie.

The movie beautifully portrayed women and men of diverse beauty, sizes, hair, fashion, and races. In Barbie Land, the concept of ugliness simply doesn’t exist, as everyone is embraced and celebrated for who they are. Instilling this idea into our world can make everyone feel beautiful, appreciated, and accepted for their uniqueness.

In connection with what I said above, there is nothing wrong with having differences as the notion of beauty is subjective. However, you can be beautiful according to your own terms, and that’s okay. As long as you’re taking good care of yourself, and you love who you see in the mirror, you’re good to go.

And no matter who you truly are, you are valid and you will always be important.

You can be who you are, and let no one dictate you about who you wanted to be.

You can be a doctor, writer, or even a president. As the creator of Barbie dolls, Ruth Handler said in the movie: no one can ever decide for you who you should be.
So, regardless of the complexity of your aspirations or the challenges thrown your way by the world, know that your dreams are attainable.

Choosing a good circle would be a good backbone to happiness and success.

You need to surround yourself with people who support you and celebrate who you are. They can guide you through your journey, and encourage you to be a better person.

Your circle can give you joy, and can also help you in your future goals — and that’s what makes any relationship wholesome and worthwhile.

Aside from those empowering lessons, this movie also possesses different aspects of the real world masked under the imaginative Barbie Land.

Now, some may not get the message, and they may even dislike the movie due to misinterpretation. But this movie just revealed how most women feel to live in the real world. It also showcases feminism.

Feminism doesn’t aim to be superior to men, but rather to be equal. Furthermore, equal respect while avoiding any double standards rooted in gender is one way to show support for feminism.
