The features and gimmicks on Valorant’s new map, Lotus

Valorant Lotus

Following the release of Episode 6, Act 1, Valorant launches Lotus, the game’s 9th map featuring a forgotten world with three sites and rotating doorways. For a few days, Riot Games has been hyping the release by posting art, cinematic, map trailer, and other teasers. The recent update last January 10 brought the map to the pool in a separate game mode.

Every map in Valorant features map coordinates that correspond to real-world places. For Lotus, it sets at 14°07’AD.4″N8 74°53’XY”E8, located in India.

A mysterious structure housing an astral conduit radiates with ancient power. Great stone doors provide a variety of movement opportunities and unlock the paths to three mysterious sites.

THREE SITES

After Haven, Lotus is the second map that features three sites where attackers can plant the spike. Attackers have to go through lobbies and then areas with lots of turns before entering the chosen site where the defenders await.

At the first glance, it feels like a map that favors defenders with the distance of their spawn to the sites. However, in post-plant situations, they’d have a hard time rotating given the map’s many corners.

DESTRUCTIBLE WALLS AND ROTATING DOORWAYS

Between A Main and A Link, there lies a small destructible wall. The blue light emitting from the wall will turn red and will show visible cracks once it has received lots of damage. This serves as an indicator that it’s nearly destroyed. In a way, it’s similar to Ascent’s destructible doors.

The map’s main and never-before-seen gimmick is the rotating doorways that can be found between A Main and A Tree then between B Main and C Main. Given its 180° rotation, a game of hide-and-seek is in store for players.

While a separate game mode for Lotus is ongoing, a chance for Valorant players to explore the new map awaits. Memorizing callouts, knowing where to attack, and learning strategies will be difficult at first, but let it become a challenge!
