Serena Dalrymple, the unwavering child wonder

Serena Dalrymple, the unwavering child wonder

Looking back, Serena started off like a sprout. But, a brilliant tiny sprout turned and blossomed into a beautiful and tenacious flower whose stem kept standing despite the harsh weather. Whose vigorous petals remained unflinching regardless of the mystery of tomorrow’s withering or blooming. Her courage is encapsulated with dreams and admiration.

Above all, settling for what is less does not entrail in her. But, rather, her root explores and bravely wanders the soil to reach the nutrients she needs to flourish. In insects, she did not fickle. In dilemma, she did not bewilder. Indeed, she is a courageous plant that keeps waving back at the sun’s blaze after the catastrophic rain. She is small as she may seem, but her charm and fierceness surely do scream.

A glimpse at her sapling moments

Serena rose to fame as an adorable child star in 1997. Like a sapling plant, she started to show off her leaves with greatness and potential. In a fast-food commercial, she debuted her career with a notable line “isa pa, isa pang chickenjoy!” along with the prominent actor, Aga Muhlach.

It was, then, followed by roles in TV series such as Wansapanataym, and Marinella in 1999; and Sana’y Wala ng Wakas in 2003. She also starred in movies such as Haba-baba-doo! Puti-puti-poo!, Tong Tatlong Tatay Kong Pakitong Kitong, Bata, Bata Paano Ka Ginawa?, and Hiling in 1998; Type kita… Walang kokontra, and Tik Tak Toys: My Kolokotoys in 1999; Daddy O, Baby O! in 2000; Mila, Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan, and Ito na ang Susunod na Kabanata in 2001.

She also joined the casting of Tanging Ina in 2003 and had an exceptional appearance for its sequel Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat in 2008 and Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na’to in 2010 with the Comedy Queen, Ai-ai Delas Alas.

The blooming bud

During her race in the industry, Serena prove herself and demonstrated her tremendous acting skills in drama and comedy. Most of her characters portray a mischievous, silly, and clever kid that never runs out of hilarious lines. With her jolly and free-spirited personality, she performed remarkable acting and was able to keep up with her co-actors and late comedians such as King of Comedy Dolphy Quizon, Redford White, and Babalu.

In her blooming stage, she earned numerous awards and nominations with Bata, Bata Paano Ka Ginawa? where she played Maya, the youngest daughter of Lea played by Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos-Recto, and bagged the FAMAS Award as Best Child Actress. In those times, Serena is definitely representation of small but terrible.

A plant against the rainy days

Just like any other flower, Serena has her own seasons, too. Wherein the realm of the industry is not always a rainbow and sunshine for her. There are rainy days as well. In 2004, when projects and opportunities are beyond her reach, she announced her retirement from her career.

It was a bold decision to leave behind the life of a celebrity and the glitz and glamor of the world of show business. It was also a daring move to pursue private life rather than the perks and promises of the limelight. After her acting career, she pursued studies and finished a master’s in International Business at Hult International Business School in London. Now, she is a happy wife to her husband Thomas Bridellet.

Figuratively and literally, Serena is definitely not the type of creature who chooses to settle and grow where she was planted. But, she is indeed a strong and tough woman who picks her own pot where she believes growing is abundant in its soil. Serena is an astounding woman that keeps shining in her own way. And, an amazing flower from an adorable tiny bud that keeps thriving every single day.
