Here’s What We Know About HBO’s the Idol

The sleaziest love story is coming up this year to become your new favorite show. This is a product of the creative minds of Blinding Lights singer, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, creator of Emmy-winning Euphoria, Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim, the longtime creative producer of The Weeknd. Together, they created the new drama series on HBO, The Idol

What to expect from The Idol‘s storyline?

The Idol will take the audience to “the gutters of Hollywood”. This will show the darker side of the glamorous image of the music industry.

The plot centers on Tedros who owns a club and is a leader of a cult. Meanwhile, Jocelyn is a rising pop star who gets involved in a complicated romance with the former. Moreover, classic subjects of drugs, sex, and party are expected in the series as how seen in the released trailers.

Who is the cast for The Idol?

Not only participating behind the cameras, but Abel Tesfaye will serve his first leading role in The Idol.

The Weeknd portrays the character of Tedros, the cult leader. He made his acting debut in the film, Uncut Gems, in 2019. 

On the other hand, the female leading role is taken by Lily-Rose Depp. This will be the first time Depp acts in a television series.

She portrays a pop singer even though known for being a Chanel model and a film actress in real life. But then, in the Yoga Hosers film, she sang as a lead vocal for Styx’s song rendition of Babe.

Other included in the cast are Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennot, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria. However, the details of their roles are still hidden.

What are the occurred changes behind the scene?

In late April 2022, The Idol went under a new creative direction after then-director Amy Seimetz exited. She directed the six episodes on HBO had green-lit last November 2021. Thus, major changes affected the timeline of the release of the upcoming show.

HBO said the adjusted creative team of The Idol continued to build, refine, and evolve the vision for the show— leading the direction by Sam Levinson. While last June 2022, it was reported that the shooting for the show has finally wrapped up.

When is the release date of The Idol?

So far, trailers for The Idol that had been unveiled. However, the release date of the show remains unannounced. One thing they confirmed, it would release this year. While other sources said that The Idol would run this fall.
