Versatile Filipina actress Chai Fonacier is set to star in the upcoming thriller “Nocebo” alongside Hollywood actors Eva Green and Mark Strong. In a report published on Variety report on Thursday, Chai will play the role of a Filipino carer who uses traditional folk healing in helping Eva’s character know more about her mysterious illness.
The title “Nocebo” is based on the Nocebo Effect, the antonym of placebo wherein the patient’s negative thinking results in a more negative outcome.
The new film, set to be produced both in the Philippines and in Ireland, will be directed by “Vivarium” director Lorcan Finnegan, written by Garret Shanley, and produced by Emily Leo, Brunella Cocchiglia, and Filipino producers Bianca Balbuena an Bradley Liew. It’s also being developed by Screen Ireland, XYZ Films, Media Finance Capital, and The Film Development Council of the Philippines.
Chai is a theater and film actress who is known for her role in the award-winning 2016 film “Patay na si Hesus.” In 2017, she won best supporting actress for her role. She also starred in “Respeto” and “Born Beautiful.”
French actress Eva, on the other hand, is known for her roles in “Casino Royale,” and “Penny Dreadful,” while Mark is popular for his works in “1917,” “Shazam,” and “The Kingsman” franchise.
The release date of the film is yet to be announced.
