Celeste Cortesi transforms into Darna for her Miss Universe National Costume
An iconic Filipina portraying an iconic Filipina icon, how does it get more iconic than this?! Celeste Cortesi, Miss Universe Philippines 2022, showcased her Darna-inspired national costume in full-on superhero splendor.
It is a stunning creation of Oliver Tolentino (who also designed her lovely evening gown); with headpiece and metalwork accessories made by Jerome Navarro.
To formally introduce Darna to the universe, the host describes her as:
“Darna is the ultimate Filipina superhero and part of the country’s pop culture. She transforms from an ordinary woman with the help of a white stone. Standing up for those who cannot defend themselves. Have no fear because Darna is here!”

Since the dawn of Miss Universe, fans have been waiting to see the Filipina superhero make its debut and it finally happened! Because of this, it caused a massive stir online, but with good reasons.

It’s safe to say that many are delighted with the costume (and as they should!).
JRB Creatives, one of the productions behind the ongoing superhero series even released a statement. Expressing their gratitude and praising Celeste for a fantastic performance.
The statement reads:

Prior to the national costume showcase, Celeste did an outstanding perfomance during the preliminary competition. She’s powerful, she’s unstoppable and she’s flying to grab that Miss Universe crown. Go get it, Celeste!
