We never realized the nature of Jake and Rosa’s relationship until this episode in the first season came to light. In this particular episode, Peralta and Diaz actively chase down a criminal known as the “Pontiac Bandit,” receiving assistance from an identity thief. Motivated by a suspect who possesses crucial information about the case, Jake and Rosa decide to collaborate in capturing this infamous car thief. When Captain Holt entrusts Rosa with the lead, Jake promptly calls upon their pact, where uttering the phrase “1000 push-ups” establishes trust between the both of them.
However, Jake’s pride got the best of him, and failed to uphold it. Rosa takes the agreement very seriously, so she feels hurt. Jake then requests her official involvement in the Pontiac Bandit case and willingly accepts the punishment as a way to make amends. It’s truly heartbreaking to witness Rosa’s dismay, especially considering how much she genuinely enjoys working with Jake. However, our hearts are lifted when we see her candidly expressing her emotions and smiling after Jake’s apology and adherence to their pact.

However, it also carries a hint of gloom as Peralta and Amy Santiago started to grow apart. Nevertheless, the group decides to organize their annual Jimmy Jab Games. Jake, driven by a desire to win, requests Rosa’s friend’s contact information as the prize.
Aware of Rosa’s perceptiveness and understanding of her mature perspective, she insists that Jake should not force himself out of the predicament he finds himself in with Santiago. Despite losing the game, Jake musters the courage to confess to Rosa that he intentionally let Amy win. While we are accustomed to witnessing Peralta’s relentless drive, which often leads to hilariously failed attempts, it is a rare treat to see Rosa unleash her own naturally funny antics. A prime example is when she surreptitiously spiked Peralta’s drink with caffeine, resulting in his comical and disastrous downfall. However, they quickly buried their ridiculous rivalry upon realizing that both of them share a genuine desire for the job.
