ACEL BISA – VAN OMMEN RELEASES SINGLE “KABA, KILIG, KURYENTE”

Singer songwriter Acel Bisa – Van Ommen this week released her latest single “Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente.”

Acel departed from her customary pop rock sound and instead chose to create a sentimental ballad for this particular release. This is her follow-up to the release of her single “My Cure” earlier this year. How it was produced made this song different, other than its nostalgic sound would be. It was the first time that she asked her session band to collaborate with her in a song.

“They are session musicians, but I consider them more like a permanent band who plays with me. This is the first time that I asked them to work with me, like jam it together to create ‘Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente.’ I stopped doing that since I became a solo artist, before as a band that’s how we would do it. Everyone has their inputs. Acel shares that John Apura, the producer of this song, initially guided instrumentalists. He led them in thinking of riffs, melody, and the direction the song should take. In contrast to Acel’s previous singles, which used multiple digital elements, she has chosen to pursue a “rawer” sound in this particular release.

“Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente”

“Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente” is a song that Acel Bisa composed several years ago. Initially, she chose not to release it due to its departure from her usual musical style. However, after careful consideration, she decided to give it an opportunity and bring it to the public for its long-awaited debut. The notion of experiencing “kilig” motivated the song. When in the presence of a crush or someone they are attracted to, individuals often experience the sensation of having butterflies in their stomach. “Despite being in my forties, I have acquaintances spanning multiple generations. Some are single, while some are married. Then, it got me wondering. We talked about whether you still feel “kilig” after getting married or as you become older. I tried to remember how “kilig” I used to get when I was in love, or thought I was in love,” she says.

While the sensation of “kilig” is understandable and legitimate when one has feelings for someone, Acel believes that the song serves as a caution that it does not necessarily equate to true love. The act of someone you are fond of opening the door for you or offering you their seat does not necessarily imply that they have the same level of affection towards you. “Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente” serves as a reminder to avoid making excessive assumptions or overly relying on one’s emotions.

A bright future ahead

Acel revealed that she has already shot a music video for her song “Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente”. She will be releasing this song in the near future. In addition to the music video release, Acel will have a packed schedule with various live performances and appearances at corporate events. Additionally, she plans to release an album by the following year, a prospect that greatly excites her. “As a solo artist, I believe I have more freedom to accomplish whatever I want or imagine as a songwriter. Unlike in a band, everyone has their own interpretation on a song or what to do in an album that we’re creating. They’re both good, but they’re clearly not the same. As a solo artist, my current challenge is to really stretch my imagination and to serve as the guide on everything that I do in my career.”

“Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente” is distributed by Sony Music Philippines and out now on all major streaming platforms.
