Google Chat gets a new look that matches Docs, Sheets, and Gmail
With blue accents and rounded buttons, Google Chat has been updated to Material Design 3.
In the same vein as the redesigned Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail, Google Chat also gets a new look based on Google’s Material Design 3. A few minor changes have been made to the entire interface, including rounded buttons (and a rounded search bar), along with blue accents.
Aside from the main message view, there have been a few minor changes to the compose setup, the new topic button, as well as the thread panel within direct messages and spaces.
As part of its Chat announcement this week, Google also announced the ability for Space Managers to create announcement-only channels. Having an announcements section makes it easier to keep everyone informed since you won’t have to dig through a lot of conversations just to find a crucial update.
Although the redesign doesn’t bring any unexpected changes, you’ll at least know what’s going on when Google Chat looks slightly different once it launches within a few weeks.
Growing up with Google, this felt pretty bittersweet, considering how far it has come since the search engine first started. You, what are your thoughts on this? Share them in the comments below.
