VP Tech: HONOR 90 – Unboxing and First Impression

Attention photography enthusiasts and social media aficionados! Brace yourselves for exciting news as HONOR Philippines is gearing up to unleash its latest mobile camera marvel on August 15.

Behold the HONOR 90 5G, boasting an impressive 200MP f/1.9 Matrix rear camera featuring a 1/1.4-inch sensor – a pioneering move in the Philippines’ mid-range segment.

VP Tech has already experienced the camera’s prowess, leaving us eager to determine whether HONOR can truly ascend to the throne as the Mobile Camera King in this segment. Stay tuned as we unveil the verdict soon.

Moreover, having had the privilege of testing this unit, VP Tech is eager to present an unboxing and our initial impressions. Likewise, stay tuned for the full #VPTechReviews!

The Unboxing

As a minimalist enthusiast, I appreciate the sleek design of the packaging. Meanwhile, the front displays the brand and model name, while the back showcases key specs, highlight features, and regulatory details.

Furthermore, the interior retains its neatness. Opening it reveals the HONOR 90 model, with the mini box containing the SIM ejector, FREE silicone case, manuals, and documentation. In addition, the USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, Type-C to 3.5mm Jack Headphone Adapter and the 66W SuperCharge wall charger are thoughtfully positioned at the bottom.

Built and Aesthetic

At first glance, you wouldn’t peg this phone as Mid-range; its sleek, thin design exudes premium aesthetics. Crafted from a blend of glass and high-quality polycarbonate, it boasts heightened style.

The Diamond Silver color variant was provided for our review, featuring a back panel adorned with a light-enhanced dotted pattern in the lower half. This pattern not only adds texture but also improves grip, which is an important consideration for me as a reviewer. However, it’s worth noting that the glass panels do tend to attract fingerprints and smudges, which could be a slight inconvenience.

For those interested, alternative color options include Emerald Green, Peacock Blue, and Midnight Black.

Big Screen

What’s more, the device presents a generous 6.7-inch AMOLED Quad-curved Floating Screen that supports HONOR’s industry-leading, TÜV Rheinland-certified eye protection technology. Alongside this, it boasts a 2664 x 1200 resolution. Enhancing navigation is the 120Hz refresh rate. Moreover, it integrates a 3,840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming mechanism, coupled with a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. These factors collectively contribute to a comfortable and flicker free viewing experience.

Moreover, the screen’s base hosts a thoughtfully positioned in-display fingerprint scanner, enhancing both convenience and security.

Side Keys and Port

The panel sides feature slim, nearly symmetrical bezels; however, the chin bezel is slightly thicker.

At the top, there’s a discreet, super slim earpiece. Meanwhile, the bottom bezel houses the USB-C port, a small microphone port, speakers, and a dual nano SIM card tray.

 200 Megapixels Matrix Camera

The new Honor 90’s flagship feature is its Camera. Out of the box, it flaunts a whopping 200MP Main Camera with a large 1/1.4-inch Sensor, a 12MP Ultra Wide and Macro Camera, along with a 2MP Depth Camera for intricate detail and stylish bokeh effects. See sample shots of its rear camera below.

For selfie enthusiasts, the Honor 90 boasts a 50MP Front Wide Camera with a 100° angle. It captures expansive scenes and groups remarkably. Personally, I’m pleasantly surprised by its natural-looking selfie camera performance. While it employs face beauty enhancement, it’s the most authentic selfie camera I’ve tested.
