Violet Evergarden is an anime that revolves around Violet who was a weapon of war. Beaten and barely alive, Violet woke up after the war only to know that her arms are gone as well as her General Gilbert.

Left with nothing but her prosthetic arm the confusing last words from her most important person. She will try and move on from his past by working at a postal service as an “Auto Memory Doll.”

A writer transcribes people’s thoughts and feelings into words on paper. Her new work allowed her to see the different points of view in life that made her understand emotions more.

Violet Evergarden is a story of love and loss and moving forward despite the painful event that transpired to them. It’s a drama and slice-of-life anime that will leave the viewers heartbroken yet satisfied for almost every episode. Violet is a young woman, a soldier who only knows how to fight, she’s like a mindless weapon that can’t operate without orders.

Her life is on the battlefield. However, her General named Gilbert wants a better life for her. She became a writer so she could look for the meaning of Gilbert’s last word, encountering different kinds of people in the process.

The story has a slow pace, a girl who spent her life in the military, now learning to live. However, it does a great job of catching viewers with its emotional plot and relatable situations. It shows how the war affected the lives of civilians, how time is fleeting, and how life is worth living despite their loss.

This series is no doubt one of the most emotional anime series. The visuals are stunning like every anime that Kyoto Animation made. Music is somber and touching, it hits right at home. Also, the characters are all well-written and relatable and can incite genuine emotion with their short screen time. The slow pacing of the story helped emphasized the character development of Violet.

She possesses these emotions she doesn’t know how to express them or understand the feelings of others. However, through others, she grows and begins to go through these complex, heavy emotions. The pain she experiences throughout the series results in her growth as a person and it’s truly beautiful to watch.
