Mt. Pulag is one of the most famous mountains in the Philippines. It has one of the richest biodiversity in the country, having vast forests full of pines, moss, and grass. Many people said that it’s a mountain worth climbing because of its challenging traits and its natural beauty.

Standing proudly at 2926 meters above sea level, Mt. Pulag, dubbed as the “playground of the gods,” is located in Benguet, bordering Ifugao and and Nueva Vizcaya. It is very rugged and is characterized by steep to very steep slopes at the mountainsides and generally rolling areas at the mountain peak. Mt. Pulag is the highest peak in Luzon and is the third highest mountain in the Philippines.

What is in this mountain?

The summit of Mt. Pulag is covered with grass and dwarf bamboo plants. At lower elevations, the mountainside has a mossy forest veiled with fog, ferns, lichens, and moss. The mountain also has a large diversity of flora and fauna, which are endemic to the mountain. Its wildlife includes threatened mammals such as the Philippine Brown Deer, Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rat, and the Luzon Pygmy Fruit Bar. You can also find several orchid species there in which some may possible be endemic to Mt. Pulag. Aside from these, Mt. Pulag is an important watershed providing the water necessities of many stakeholders.

Aside from it being the highest peak in Luzon, one of the reasons why you should visit Mt. Pulag is because of its famous sea of clouds. Once you reach the summit, the cloud looks like an ocean, thus the name “sea of clouds”. Although, according to some, there are times that it can’t be seen, still, the view on top of this majestic mountain is more than enough. Aside from that, you can also see the visible milky way galaxy at night. This sight is so scenic that you will feel as if you have stepped out of the Earth and peeked through space just so you can have this night view.
