‘The Powerpuff Girls’ is getting a live action series and we couldn’t be more excited about this
Sugar, spice, and everything nice — these were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls. But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: Chemical X. Millenials, in general, know these lines by heart because of the cartoon show Powerpuff Girls.
Powerpuff Girls fighting crimes and making their way as adults
As a Cartoon Network series, The Powerpuff Girls first used their awesome powers to save the world. The animated series ran for six seasons and 78 episodes between 1998 and 2005. “The Powerpuff Girls Movie” was released in 2002, while a rebooted animated series began airing on Cartoon Network in 2016.
This 2021, it looks like they’ve officially come to life! The management announced the development of this remake last year around August for the CW Television Network.
The producers already revealed the actresses who got the role of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup for the live-action adaptation. They are Chole Bennet (Agents of SHIELD), Dove Cameron (Disney’s Descendants), and Yanna Perrault (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill).
Meet the cast of Powerpuff Girls and get a glimpse of their story
Chole Bennet will star as Blossom, the leader of the group. Her description is a “spunky, conscientious, Little-Miss-Perfect child who holds several advanced degrees.” As a back story, she repressed kiddie-superhero trauma that has left her feeling anxious and reclusive. Because of that, she aims to be a leader again but in her own way.
Meanwhile, Dove Cameron will play Bubbles. Her character has an innocent and sweet disposition that made her a favorite of many kids. She still sparkles as an adult. But her charming exterior hides her toughness and wit. She’s initially more interested in recapturing her fame than saving the world. But there might be a surprise twist for the audience.
Yanna Perrault is the one starring as the badass and fierce Buttercup. Even though with her tough exterior, she is sensitive more than anyone. She has spent her adulthood trying to get away from her Powerpuff Girl identity. She wants to live an anonymous life.
The Powerpuff Girls pilot hails from writers and executive producers Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars, Sleepy Hollow) and Diablo Cody (Juno). Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden of Berlanti Productions will serve as executive producers, alongside Warner Bros. Television.
