The Office: Michael and Dwight’s best moments

We’re back with another list of moments to relive from our beloved sitcom, The Office! Who wouldn’t want to watch it all over again? It might make you cringe because of Michael Scott‘s awkward moments, but we grew to love them along the way. It has been years since we last saw the gang, but we always have the chance to relive every laugh and tear we shared with them.

One of the greatest aspects of The Office is the friendships that developed over time. We have witnessed some of Jim’s best pranks on Dwight. While it may have seemed childish on the surface, these pranks brought them closer together. Another noteworthy relationship is the one between Dwight and Michael!

Although it’s clear that Michael didn’t like Dwight as much as he liked Jim and Ryan, they still had their moments. Dwight did everything he could to gain Michael’s attention. Meanwhile, Michael always saw him as a brown-noser. However, by the end of Michael’s tenure as the regional manager of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton Branch, he revealed that Dwight truly had a special place in his heart. So, without further ado, let’s explore some of their best moments in the series!

The Office: Michael and Dwight’s best moments

Paintball lessons

One of Michael’s earliest foolish deeds stemmed from his frustration during the office’s Christmas party in the second season, where they played Secret Santa. Instead of adhering to the tradition, Michael surprised everyone by instigating a game of Yankee Swap, where gifts were exchanged. His motivation arose from his disappointment over receiving a smaller gift from Phyllis compared to the iPod he had given Ryan.

Given Michael’s reputation for pettiness, such a move was not unexpected. However, the situation quickly deteriorated. Upon receiving Dwight’s paintball lessons during the Yankee Swap, Michael responded rudely and even flung Dwight’s toy dwarf ears at him.

But as they say, everyone loves a good comeback. On Michael’s last day, he invited Dwight to engage in a paintball duel behind the office building. Their joy was evident as they playfully shot at each other. Michael even surprised Dwight with an unexpected twist. This act served as a tribute to Michael’s tendency to make amends when he becomes too rude. In fact, he even asked Phyllis for mittens, a gift he had declined to take back during the Yankee Swap episode!

Dinner party

Michael had always evaded spending time with Dwight, possibly due to Dwight’s excessively sycophantic behavior, which could be incredibly irritating. In one of the most cringe-worthy episodes of the series, Michael arranged a dinner at his condominium, inviting Jim, Pam Beesly, Andy Bernard, and Angela Martin to join him and his girlfriend Jan Levinson. However, Dwight was excluded because it was intended as a couples’ dinner, and Michael only had six wine glasses, which greatly disappointed Dwight.

Given Michael and Jan’s volatile relationship, it was evident that the dinner party would be a disaster. Right from the start, Pam and Jim sensed the tension between the couple. Michael and Jan exchanged passive-aggressive remarks, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. The house tour became increasingly awkward, and to make matters worse, Jan had yet to cook the turkey. As a result, they were forced to entertain themselves for the remaining hours.

However, Dwight arrived with wine and a partner, determined to join the couples’ dinner. Michael then revealed that it was Jan who didn’t want to invite Dwight. In a final act of solidarity, Michael chose to stand up for the uninvited guest. Several altercations happened, and the situation escalated to the point where the neighbors called the police due to the disturbance. With Jan mistreating Michael, he sought refuge at someone else’s house for the night, which Dwight willingly provided. Surprisingly, the episode concluded on a more positive note than anticipated.

Miss Chair Model Lady

In one episode, Michael, following his breakup with Jan, embarked on a quest to find a new lover. In a truly unexpected twist, he became infatuated with a chair model featured in a magazine. The hilarity of the whole episode stemmed from his delusion, which distracted him from actually ordering a new chair from the catalog.

What added to the comedy was that amidst all the unnecessary chaos, Michael delivered a heartfelt and impassioned speech about his desire to have a family. His energy was completely misdirected, yet everyone, including Stanley, found themselves captivated by his words. Dwight, always eager to please Michael, took it upon himself to locate the chair model. It was amusing to witness his deep involvement in the search, going to great lengths to gather information and conduct thorough investigations.

Dwight devised a plan to set her up with Michael, only to know that the model died in a tragic car accident. To cheer the disappointed chap, Dwight provided Michael closure by accompanying him to her grave. By the time they arrived, Michael began singing about her, using the melody of American Pie. Soon, Dwight joined and they actually danced above the grave. They sang together, and witnessing Michael having Dwight by his side and cheering him up during his lowest moments was truly a remarkable sight.

Throughout the episode, we anxiously hope for Dwight’s swift return to Dunder Mifflin. We believe that his true place belongs within its walls. Equally disheartening is witnessing Andy’s insincere flattery toward Michael. Ryan started the fire!

And although Michael and Dwight don’t always see eye to eye throughout the series, they unexpectedly find common ground in this particular episode. Dwight begins to feel jealous of Ryan due to Michael’s growing interest in him. As Dwight observes Michael’s efforts to win Ryan’s favor, he gradually becomes filled with sadness.

During the evacuation of the office building when a fire breaks out, Dwight sits in his car, listening to “Everybody Hurts,” while Michael repeatedly fails to impress Ryan with his supposed business expertise. However, when Michael realizes that his cell phone is still inside the burning office, Dwight disregards his own safety and rushes back in to retrieve Michael’s phone. Initially infuriated by Dwight’s reckless behavior, Michael’s concern aggravates when he learns that his cell phone was with him all along.

Later, when Dwight discovers that Ryan accidentally started the fire while attempting to cook a cheese pita, both Dwight and Michael take pleasure in teasing him. Dwight’s joy is evident as he even prepares a song to sing alongside Michael, titled “Ryan Started the Fire.” It goes to show that, as the saying goes, giving people a common enemy can forge a shared sense of identity.

Michael and Dwight experienced their fair share of ups and downs throughout their journey. However, similar to the dynamic of friendships within the Office, their relationship matured and endured even in the face of challenging and cringeworthy circumstances.
