As one of the world’s oldest beauty pageants, Miss Asia Pacific International started in 1965 as simply, Miss Asia. Based in the Philippines, the pageant would go through several name changes as it allowed more countries to participate, finally settling with its current one in 2005.

In the 1990s to early 2000s, the pageant would earn a reputation as one of the world’s biggest and most important. Often associated with the like Miss Universe and Miss World.

However, despite its 57-year long history, MAPI has been inconsistent with staging its competitions. Having two sets of revivals after lengthy delays, the pageant has been halted since 2019.
