The Clash contender Anthony Uy is the pride of Cotabato City

Cotabato City is known to be the primary trade and commercial center for all of southwestern Mindanao. With its geographical location, it is no wonder why trade and commerce are booming. However, beyond this amazing and booming industry are singers whom we can say are globally competitive, and we can call our own! The pride of Cotabato City, Anthony Uy is making us fall in love with his voice. His performance in The Clash will surely blow us away!

Something unique

To find the true meaning of life, we must look at our strengths and use that to make a difference. Anthony expressed how fortunate he has been in turning his passion into a career.

We are all born with a gift, some of us are gifted as chefs, some as farmers, some as business people, some as reporters, and some as entertainers, but very few ever find their true gift, because they aren’t living their life. They are living the life others are projecting on them. I’m a very fortunate person to have found my gift, and applied the discipline and determination necessary to turn my gift into my career.

How it started

It is Filipino culture and tradition that paved the way for Anthony to enter the music industry. Indeed, karaoke played a huge role in discovering his talent, with the help of his grandparents. His passion was evident when he was in high school, joining singing competitions and choirs. Sadly, he was one of those many who were told he was not “not good enough,” driving him to do better.

The influence of great Philippine singers

Anthony has been a huge fan of our local singers which influenced his techniques in singing.

“Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Lani Misalucha and Christian Bautista. Their style and life stories have inspired me and my goal is to one day have my music be just as influential as theres.

Journey to The Clash

Anthony’s journey is quite different from the competitions he joined in the past. This time, he had to go through a series of auditions which, for him, was a nerve-racking experience!

At the beginning of June this year, I sent in an audition video to GMA’s The Clash. I was not shortlisted in the first batch so I thought it was not for me. On June 26, they asked me to send another audition video, after that I went to Manila for the final callback. From the top 57 contestants invited to Manila, we were shortlisted to the top 30 finalists and as of this writing I have advanced to the fourth round of the competition.

Challenges along the way!

Like everyone else, we face different challenges. Some have major difficulties. Anthony is not spared from it!

The biggest challenge we face as competitors is the pandemic

In addition to this, there were fears!

“It creates a lot of fear amongst all of us, because if we contract COVID we’re out of the competition.”

A song for everyone!

During this pandemic, a lot of us lost our loved ones, jobs, and lifestyle! This year has been the most challenging time of our lives. However, there’s always a song to remind us to keep going, and keep our spirit up high! This was the same case for Anthony.

If I was given the chance to dedicate a song to everyone right now it would be “Heal the World” by Michael Jackson. The lyrics of the song give hope to everyone that one day we can live in a better place and surpass this crisis that we are facing right now.

The world is a new place now. Do what you love and love what you do and your efforts will be rewarded and make you happy. You are in control of your life and the only one that can stop you is yourself.

Excuses are for losers and because God makes no junk you don’t start off as a loser – pray and ask for the Lord’s guidance, if you are listening, God will show you the way – BUT remember only you can make it happen!

Life is full of magic. Moreover, it is about making an impact through music.

Thank you for being an inspiration to many, Anthony Uy!
