Talking to Manila Luzon about her impeccable style and All Stars 6

It definitely is no secret that I am a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race. My first article is about the show and I continue to write about it. That’s why I spilled my heart out all over the floor when I had the chance to interview Manila Luzon.

This happened last Wednesday, June 16, in her welcome address as she joins Cornerstone Entertainment, Inc.

When I entered the room, actor Alex Diaz and local drag queen Brigiding noticed that my background is actually from the show’s confessionals. I made a joke about this and said that I am actually in the Confessions room and will be making comments about Manila.

To my heart’s delight, the fabulous drag queen, Manila, laughed along with the two hosts. She answered,

“Oh, you better! All good things, I hope.”

(I still can’t believe that I made her laugh, ugh)

Before I started interviewing her, I also grabbed the chance to showcase my love for her. I definitely said all the things I wanted to just like how I imagined it before.

I said that I cried when she lip-synced for her life in Season 3 and when she was eliminated in All-Stars 4. This made her smile and even made her put her hand on her chest. Anyhow, here are the questions that I asked one of my most favorite drag queens. And Manila Luzon, being Manila Luzon, answered with great wit.

Manila Luzon – her tasteful style is not inspired by who but by what

Manila Luzon is known for her impeccable style—a mix between camp and high fashion. That’s why I asked who inspires her to make her fabulous pieces. She answered,

“Crazy thing is that I don’t have a who as my inspiration. It’s more like whatever… or thing is laying [around] as my inspiration. I could be drinking a tea out of this mug and create a mug-inspired gown one day.”

The double all-star reiterated,

“I love to be inspired by things that are very commonplace. But then find a way to make it glamorous and something that’s bigger and larger than life. And I think that’s what I love to do about drag. So, it’s not necessarily a question of who’s inspiring me, but more of a ‘what’ in general is inspiring me.”

She is #TeamJiggly for All-Stars 6

After asking about her fashion, of course, I asked about All-Stars 6. The promo for this season is really beautiful. That’s why Drag Race fans just can’t help themselves but feel ecstatic.

As seen above, Jiggly Caliente flaunts her Filipino heritage. She rocks a Filipiniana-inspired gown in a blend of yellow and orange to fit the sunset theme of the promo.

This is also the season in which she came out as a transwoman. That is why she seems to be more free and confident because she was able to find her true self.

With that said, here’s what Manila said about who she roots for in this season of All-Stars.

“I mean, do I really even have to say? I’m rooting for my sister Jiggly Calliente. Yass, honey. That’s my Pinay sister right there. I’m so proud of her. She’s one of the first drag queens I met when I moved to New York City. She’s always been the sweetest thing to me. We became close friends and I’ve always been one of her biggest supporters. The way that she’s been a supporter of me.”

The camp queen continued,

“I’m so so so excited that she has the chance to go back on the show and show the world who she is and how talented she is. I’m just so proud of her. So, Team Jiggly all the way, honey.”

I actually already know who she will say, but I had to ask. This cute relationship that the two Pinat drag queens have is priceless. I can’t want to see how Jiggly plays the game as well. I am pretty sure that she’ll do great!

Sadly, that concludes my interview with her. To this day, I still can’t believe that it happened. Meanwhile, if it interests you, here are some comments in our live video.

One user said, pertaining to my emotional intro before my questions.

“Baka maiyak si Kuya, pero at least mas maganda tanong niya. (This guy might cry, but at least his questions are good).”

The other commenter, on the other hand, made a joke about how I reminded them of her elimination in All-Stars 4. It probably is still one of the greatest gags in the show’s long history.

What surprised me though is the comment of Philippine singer, KZ Tandingan, saying that my questions were good. This put a smile on my face. Other commenters also made a comment on how my questions were interesting and in line with what they want. They joked about how they wish that I just do a one-on-one interview with the drag queen.

These remarks made me laugh. I bet they sensed that a Drag Race superfan asked the questions. That’s why they were both on-point.

If you want to watch the whole live video, it is on Facebook. The timestamp of my interview is 49:40.

Finally, I want to remind everyone to support Jiggly Caliente in the upcoming All-Stars 6!
