Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, Z Fold5 now up for pre-orders
During Wednesday’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable devices: the Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Z Fold5. These products are now available for pre-order, coinciding with their global debut, and early birds can get exciting offers!
The new Samsung foldables are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with a smartphone, whether it’s open or closed. They boast strong performance and an optimized battery, equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5: Larger cover display, more functionality
One of the Galaxy Z Flip5’s highlights is its larger than ever cover display. “Flex Window,” as Samsung likes to call it, is a 3.4-inch cover screen that uses an AMOLED panel. This offers a plethora of customization options. From widgets to video wallpapers, clock faces to styles, you can truly make your Galaxy Z Flip5 your own.
The back panel and Flex Window of the device are covered with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for an added layer of protection. In addition, it has an IPX8 water resistance rating, which means it can withstand submersion in freshwater up to 1.5 meters deep.
Flipping onto its main display, it sports a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED. With adaptive refresh rate at up to 120Hz.
Powering this foldable is the latest flagship Qualcomm chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2. It comes with 8-gigabyte RAM and up to 512-gigabyte storage.
Going to its camera department, it has two 12-megapixel lenses. An ultrawide with 123° field-of-view, and the primary wide camera with optical image stabilization.
Thanks to the phone’s larger cover screen, it is now possible to capture selfies using the rear cameras.
It’s quite a bummer for the battery though, still capped to 3,700mAh dual battery pack. That’s the same rating as last year’s Z Flip4.
Other features include 5G with one nano-SIM and an eSIM; One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13; and it has a side-fingerprint sensor that doubles as the power button.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5: The lightest and most compact Z Fold yet
Thanks to the redesigned ‘Flex Hinge’ on the foldables, there are no visible gaps when folded. When folded, the device measures only 13.4mm in thickness. And weighs only about 253 grams, making it truly pocketable.
When unfolded, its slimmer at 6.1mm thin. Inside is its main display that spans 7.6 inches, using a high-resolution Dynamic AMOLED panel. This remains viewable under direct sunlight due to its peak brightness of 1,750 nits.
Meanwhile, the cover screen also uses Dynamic AMOLED too, measuring 6.2-inches. Both displays have 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and can be configured with up to 1-terabyte storage and 12-gigabyte RAM.
It’s also 5G-enabled with two nano-SIM slots and one eSIM; Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1; IPX8 water resistance; and side-fingerprint sensor as well.
