The 31st edition of Reina Hispanoamericana will finally push through with its competition slated for next year. In a social media post, the organization (Promociones Gloria) states that the pageant will begin on January 21, 2023.
Staging its coronation night at the Salón Sirionó Expocruz in Sta. Cruz, Bolivia on February 4, Mexico’s Andrea Bazarte will crown her successor at the end of the event.
The announcement was made following the pageant’s postponement a few months ago. Due to the rising socio-political uproar in the city, the pageant released a statement on October 14, stating its cancellation.
“We regret having to inform you that the city of Santa Cruz is in a very delicate socio-political situation. This sad situation forces us to make the decision to postpone the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant. The new date for the final night is Saturday, February 4, 2023. Our organization wishes above all to protect the safety of the candidates and that they fully enjoy their stay in our wonderful city. This is a situation that is out of our hands.”
The is the second time that Reina Hispanoamericana chose to not hold its competition. The first one was in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
About 30 candidates will be vying for the pageant. This includes Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2022 Maria Ingrid Teresita Santamaria. Ingrid is aiming to become the country’s second titleholder after Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez who won the crown in 2017.
Despite being a Spanish-based pageant, The Philippines still manages to pull off an impressive track record. Other notable finishes include 5th runner-up in 2019 by Ma. Katrina Llegado as well as 3rd runner-up in 2021 by Zoe Emmanuelle Vera.
