Reina Hispanoamericana postpones its 2022 pageant

With pageants happening from left to right, fans are definitely in a frenzy right now. Unfortunately, one pageant has decided to suspend its slated competition this year.

The 32nd Reina Hispanoamericana pageant has been cancelled due to ongoing socio-political crisis in Bolivia, particularly in the host city of Santa Cruz. The Organizers, Promociones Gloria, released a statement on social media stating the following:

We regret having to inform you that the city of Santa Cruz is in a very delicate socio-political situation. This sad situation forces us to make the decision to postpone the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant. The new date for the final night is Saturday, February 4, 2023. Our organization wishes above all to protect the safety of the candidates and that they fully enjoy their stay in our wonderful city. This is a situation that is out of our hands.

This is the second time that Reina Hispanoamericana has put the pageant on pause. The first one was in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Understanding the situation, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas under the ALV pageants responds to the situation stating that:

The ALV Pageant Circle lauds the organizers’ concern for the safety of all their global candidates and prays that lasting peace and the triumph of the democratic process over the ensuing conflict.

With the pageant pushed till next year, this gives ample time for the candidates to prepare. In her quest to win the country’s second crown, the extension of her training will surely help Ingrid Santamaria to improve even better.

Debuting in 1991, Reina Hispanoamericana is an annual beauty pageant celebrating Hispanic heritage, language, and culture. Originally named as Reina Sudamericana, it mainly focused on countries belonging to the South American continent.

However, as years go by, the pageant started to open its doors to the rest of the Americas and other latin-related countries. In 2007, they officially changed the name to Reina Hispanoamericana.

The Philippines—being colonized by the Spaniards—made its way to the pageant in 2017. It was also that year when we won our first crown through Winwyn Marquez. Currently, the Philippines is the only Asian country competing for the crown.

We are sending our thoughts and prayers to both the organizers and people of Santa Cruz. May you all be safe and may peace reign in spite of all the adversities.
