Phil’s-osophies: A Collection of Phil Dunphy’s Iconic Lines from Modern Family

Phil's-osophies

If you’re fond of Modern Family, you may know by heart that Phil Dunphy is one of the best characters on the show. He is filled with fun, quirkiness, and a child-like innocence that he shares with everyone. While his innocence is adorable, there are times that his thinking might be misunderstood by many.

In the series, Phil composed a book titled Phil’s-osophies. He may have called it Phil-osophies or one that we can say smoothly, but hey, that’s how his mind works. It includes iconic quotes that showcase his personality, wit, and humor. Making Phil one of the most loved characters in the whole show.

On his Birthday Wish

“The iPad comes out on my actual birthday. It’s like Steve Jobs and God got together to say, ‘We love you, Phil.’”

In this episode, Phil is celebrating his birthday. Beforehand, he lets everyone know what his ultimate desire is, an iPad. Claire, offering to help him acquire one, volunteers to line up at the store early in the morning. But yeah, she slept through it and missed the chance at an early spot in the queue. Phil lost hope as the day progressed, he even accepted his fate. But in the end, thankfully, he still got one.

On Filmmaking

“I love filmmaking and I love love. I guess you could say I enjoy making love on film and I love doing it by myself.”

Talking about filmmaking, his innocence really does overshadow his hearing of what he is saying. He really does set himself up with his lines. During this episode, he was helping Andy create a video for his girlfriend Beth. It was really fun to see Phil bond with another person with the same wavelength.

On Claire being a Perfectionist

“Claire’s a perfectionist, which sometimes is a good thing, like when it comes to picking a husband.”

It was rubbed into Phil that Claire settled for less when she married him. But we do know that it was really not the truth. They fill each other’s weaknesses and they fit each other’s missing puzzle pieces. Which makes it clear that they are both perfect for each other.

On French Film

“Why do I have to watch a French movie? I didn’t do anything wrong.”

In an attempt to prove to themselves that Alex got her intelligence from them, they tested their intellectual drives. Instead of watching a cheesy B-movie titled Croctopus, Claire insisted on watching a French film. This didn’t stop Phil from watching it by himself, especially as it was in 3D.

On Leading a Double Life

“I wish I were one of those people who thrives in the danger of leading a double life. You know, Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, Hannah Montana…”

Phil really does have range. Aside from referencing Legally Blonde, it was no surprise that he is also a fan of Hannah Montana. This just makes us love him more.

On Luke’s Birth

“Luke, I am your father. That takes me back to the delivery room. That’s what I said to you when you were coming out of your mom’s lady parts.”

Multiple references from this one. Phil found an opportunity to make a Star Wars reference and then he added a hilarious experience. Thinking about the scenarios, it was really hilarious to see Phil be unserious during Claire’s labor.

Phil Dunphy’s moments are one reason to rewatch this whole series again. Along with the miscommunication tropes and misunderstanding that lead to trouble, it really makes us miss this show. So why not relive the moment with the whole modern family? Be sure to rewatch them again as they are back for streaming on Disney+.
